Rylan was on his feet in seconds, scanning every inch of the room, ensuring they were alone. Luckily, it seemed they were, so there were no sudden jump scares for the pair of them. That didn't stop her mate from grabbing the phone on their bedside table, ringing every other Alpha in the vicinity.
In under five minutes the room was full of Alphas, in varying states of dress, all of them staring at the bloody words splashed across the wall:
You can run, but you can't hide...
"Three guesses who that message is for..." A very shirtless Blaze mumbled.
"How did they even get in here?!" Blu questioned, pulling his blue dressing gown further around his shoulders.
"We're going to have to upgrade security again, aren't we?"
"Not necessarily...." A red-haired Alpha strode back into the room, slipping his mobile back into his pocket. "I've just got a call from Luke." He said. "It seems the guards found someone in the woods..."
"An intruder?" Blaze's green eyes locked on his blue ones.
"Of course, idiot." The Alpha replied, shaking his head slightly. "That's not all, though. He was tied up, and there was a note in his mouth, which is what's worrying me..."
"You mean we've got another intruder." A second shirtless blonde said, his blood red eyes darkening.
"Exactly."
"The only question is what this second intruder wants..." The red-haired Alpha mumbled, resting one hand on his chin. "Evidently, they're not with Omega Taurus..."
"Or they could be trying to trick us..." The second shirtless blonde, whom Lyra recalled to be Thorn, said.
"Or we could just catch them and see what they've got to say..." Blaine chipped in. "Just saying..."
"I agree with Blay." Blaze said, clapping his partner in crime on the shoulder.
Blu rolled his eyes. "Of course you do."
"Who do you want to stay back and guard Lyra?" Blaine turned to the Alpha King who was currently pacing back and forth.
"I'm staying." Rylan growled, folding his arms as he sat next to her on the bed, trying to keep his feet from twitching.
"Ry." Blaze sighed. "We'll need your help with this. You know the grounds better than any of us ever could... You were raised here for most of your life, unlike the rest of us..."
"Blu." Rylan nodded at him. "Choose three people you get along with."
"Blaine." The blue-haired Alpha turned his gaze on the brunette who immediately latched onto his favourite blonde. "Which means I have to pick the annoying blonde too..."
"You actually get along with them?" The red-haired Alpha asked, staring at Blu sceptically.
Blu's crystalline eyes met Thorn's red ones, before sliding back the Blaine's purple ones. "No, but I have a feeling they'll be useful."
"One more." Rylan reminded him.
Blue eyes locked on a third blonde. "Blake."
"So I'm on babysitting duty again?" He mumbled, turning his grey gaze on Lyra's brown ones.
"Yep." The blue-haired Alpha nodded, taking a seat on Rylan's sofa.
"Sweet." Blake mumbled, flickering his attention over to the dynamic duo who were also waiting with them. "Oy! Blaze!" He called, watching as the other Alphas filtered out of the room. "Be a lamb and go and grab us all some breakfast."
"Lazy git..." Blaze muttered, dragging Blaine with him as he complied with the request.
"I'll be back as soon as I can." Rylan said, leaning down for a quick kiss which soon turned into a five minute make out session.
Blu had to come between them. "OK, kiddies, break it up." He sighed, resting back against the bedframe. "Rylan, the sooner you go, the sooner you come back."
Rylan strolled towards the door, a smile plastered on his face as he glanced back at Lyra's glowing face. "See you soon."
"What do you want to watch...?" Blu turned around after her mate had left, holding up a collection of DVDs. "We can have Blaze and Blaine make popcorn, seeing as how they're always going on about it."
"I don't mind." She mumbled, climbing out of bed with a yawn, grabbing the dressing gown by her bedside. "I'm gonna go and chill outside." She said, trudging out onto the balcony, pulling Rylan's fluffy dressing gown further around herself as she breathed in his scent. She stared out across the garden below, shivering slightly in the frigid morning air. It was eerily silent. Too silent.
At least until Blaze and Blaine slammed open the balcony door she'd so carefully pulled to. "Breakfast is served." The blonde said, placing the tray of heated pancakes in front of her, taking a seat next to her as he dug into his own portion. "So..." Green eyes glinted with mischief. "How are you and Ry going so far?"
"Fine."
"That's all I get."
"It's all you deserve."
"Ouch." Blaze muttered. "Did you two have a fight or something?"
"No, you're just annoying."
"Wow I think I just got burnt..." The blonde mumbled, blinking as a hand grabbed the back of the chair he was sitting on, pulling him back inside.
"Sorry about that..." Blaine said, watching as Blu pulled the guy further inside. "He gets a bit excitable from time to time."
"Tell me about it."
"He'll calm down once you and Rylan mate, and something more interesting comes along..." He said, leaning back against the balcony's stone wall. "He's trying to help break the ice and speed things along in his own special way."
"Tell him to stop."
"He wouldn't." Blaine laughed at the thought. "He's as stubborn as a mule when he gets his mind set on something."
"Blaine." Lyra glanced up, intending to ask the brunette something, but the words fled from her mind as she spotted a flash of red hair behind him. "Behind yo-" She froze, her eyes wide as he fell to the ground, twitching as red lightning cracked around him in places.
Murky blue eyes met her brown ones, surveying her curiously for a moment before the red-haired woman's face broke into a gentle smile.
"Hello, Lyra..."
