That was her magic,
She could still see the sunset
Even on the darkest days.

*Btw, This chapter is in the past. Like a little back story*
4 years:
"Mommy, what are those pretty colours in the sky?" Jasper asks, his focus remaining on the rolling clouds. "That's the sunset sweetheart." Jaspers's mom answers, now focusing in on the sky herself. "Some people say if the sky is really nice, that means that there's beautiful weather coming. Better days ahead." The ends of his mouth curl Into a smile. "I don't think this day can get better though!" She chuckles at his remark. His innocence really showing through. "Well, whenever you see the sunset, I hope it reminds you of this great day. I hope it brings you Joy, even when it seems like everything is dark." She knew that his young mind didn't understand what she was saying. She was hoping hers would. "It will! It will remind me of the amazing day that I spent with my mommy. The yummy ice cream that you bought me this morning, the pretty beach with the super blue water that you took me too, and of course the super cool sandcastle that you helped me build!" All she could do was smile at her boy. He was wise beyond his years, capable of great things. "Jasper, one day you're gonna move mountains." Curiosity filled his youthful brain. "I don't get it?" She shook her head softly and chuckled. "One day my boy, you will."xXx
7 years:
"Mommy, what time is it." Jasper questions, looking back at his mom. "7:30 sweetie." Jasper turns his attention back to his failed sand castle. "I guess sand castles don't really work without water." Jasper generally says, a slight laugh escaping his lips. He gets up and brushes the dirt off his pants before walking over to his mom, giving her a small kiss on the cheek. "What was that for?" She loosely wraps her arm around his waist and looks into his wondering eyes. "Just to show you that I love you silly." Draping his small arms around her neck, he glances up at the sky. "Cmon Jas, we should head home." She stands up and slings her purse over her shoulder. "Oh but mom, can we please just stay and watch the sunset? Pretty please with a cherry on top!!?" She chuckles slightly before sitting back down. "Well you know I can't say no to the sunset." He smiles and fiddles with the hem of his shirt. She couldn't help but think about the very first day he noticed the sunset. It had Intrigued him like nothing before, and she now notices that it still does. "Jasper, one day you'll move mountains." She mumbled under her breath. "Oh boy will you ever."xXx
10 years:
"Mommy, can you see the sunset from your window?" She hears from across the hall. "Yes, perfect view of it." She hears Jaspers's feet hit the floor and him scramble out to her room. He climbs up on the bed next to her, placing his elbows on the window sill. "Okay Jasper, I have a task for you." He looks up at her with those big wondering eyes. "I want you to always search for the green flash." He furrowed his eyebrows. "The what?" A soft chuckle escapes her lips. "The green flash. It happens at the very bottom of the sunset. It's very brief so you must be paying attention. It symbolizes good luck." She smiles. "Then I will always look for it!" His smile deepens as he focuses in on the sky once again. "Ya know, they say the sunset is always prettier in small towns. Maybe that's one of the joys of moving here." He looks up at her and weakly smiles. "I like it here, I just miss my friends that's all." His focus returning to the sky. "I know sweetie but mommy's job wanted her here." He nods, glancing down at his lap. "I understand mommy it's okay. I'm sure I'll make some new friends here." She leans over and places a kiss on his head. Ruffling his hair a little before hopping off the bed. "Thank you Jas. I love you so so much. Now, Off to bed ya go." He too jumps off the bed and makes his way back to his room. She follows behind him. "Here let me tuck you in." She comfortably tucks the blankets under him and places another kiss on his forehead. "Goodnight sweetie, big day tomorrow! I love you." She heads out and turns off the light. "Mom!" He says, turning his head to look at her. "Thank you for always putting my happiness above yours. Thank you for letting me decide if I wanted to move. Thank you for always going that extra mile for me." With that, he turned over and snuggled into the blankets. She watches as he peacefully falls into a slumber. "Jasper Alexander Brooks, one day you will move mountains." She smiles and shuts the door behind her.xXx
13 years:
"Mom, the sunset was finally pink again today! You know that's my favorite! Maybe this could be the day that I see the green flash!" Jasper says whilst bolting down the stairs. "Yeah that's great honey........okay yes I'll see you in 10 minutes, okay great." She mumbles into the phone. "Where are you going? You just got home?" She goes over and leaves a quick kiss on his head. "I know sweetie but duty calls. I'll be back at 9. There some leftover pizza in the fridge if you're hungry." He stands and watches her buzz around. Packing pens into her purse, writing notes on the fridge, refilling the water jug, etc. She really was doing it all. "O-okay." He starts to walk back upstairs. "Jasper, one day.." she begins. "Yes one day I'll move mountains, I've heard it 100 times before." She smiles and glances down at her feet. "It's still true. Anyways, I'll see ya later. Love you." She hurries out the door. "DRIVE SAFE!" Jasper yells as she shuts the door. Drive safe.xXx
17 years:
"Hey mom, how's it going?" Jasper kneels down and places the bundle of flowers on her grave. "I got my report card! Straight a's except for gym because you know I've never liked that class." He lightly chuckles, stroking his fingers over her engraved name. "Dads going great. And Joshua, he just won his martial arts competition. Sometimes I miss martial arts ya know." Light tears roll down his cheeks. He wipes them away, looking up to the sky. "Hey look mom, the sunset. It's purple, my favorite." The sky rolls in beautiful colours. The hill supplies a perfect view. It casts a reflection off of her grave stone. "I miss you so much mom." His hand gently falls off the stone. Stroking along the beautiful picture. Salty tears roll down his face. Muffled sobs escape his slightly parted lips. His phone suddenly lights up with a text from his dad. "I have to go mom. I love you so much!" He looked off into the distant mountains as he walked and he swore he could hear his mother say it. "Jasper, one day you'll move mountains." He smiled as he walked back to his car. A genuine smile.xXx
