I'm A Walking Time Bomb

Four

     I was at the hotel room with Justin and I was getting dressed to go to the lake with Kat and her friends. Justin wasn't going because he had things to do. He was hunched over his laptop at the desk in the room while I was digging for my clothes.

     I had pulled out my Ariel bikini and went into the bathroom and slipped it on along with my wig. I walked out and grabbed a pair of grey short's and a long white shirt that went to my mid thigh. Kat texted they were outside so I gave Justin a hug bye while slipping on some purple flip flops and grabbing my bag.

     When I made my way down, I quickly noticed Sam's car so I jogged over and got into the back seat, giving Colby a smile. I guess everyone else was headed there. "Hey guys" I said with a smile. "Hey, we're gonna stop at Ralph's and get everything. Everyone else is headed there too" I nodded as Sam started to drive.

     It was quiet besides the music playing from the stereo. But, I was busy watching everything pass by us. "Hey Bev's. Do I get one of those shirts?" "What shirts?" I asked, looking at Kat after moving to the middle seat that sat between Colby and me. "The shirts for your meet up" "You watched my video!" "I had to! I watched it this morning while Sam was asleep." "Yeah, I can get you one when we go back. Do you want a hoodie or shirt?" I asked, moving to sit back.

     "Shirt is fine" I smiled and Colby asked, "What shirts?" I grabbed my phone "Here" I said while finding the picture of me and Justin wearing them and standing in the mirror at our house. "Does the back say anything?" "It says I stand with you. Then I got some bracelets with my YouTube name on it and hashtag fuckcancer. I'm gonna be giving them away at a meet up I'm going to try to do sometime this week. I'm staying here a month. But, Justin has to go back at the end of the week".

     "Maybe we could all help at the meet up, helping hand them out." I nodded "That would be cool" I said. I started picking at my nails as SOON as I see Aaron's stupid car..

      Okay... His car isn't stupid. Yesterday he was staring at me until I went back to the hotel and I didn't know why. He probably thinks I'm weird for being bald. Which sorta sucked, but I'm Kat's friend not his.

    When we got out Colby stood beside me and introduced me to Devyn, Amanda, and Elton. We all made our way inside and I was pretty much just following while we walked. I was more towards the back just walking on my own watching everyone.

      At least, I thought I was in the back until Aaron was walking right by me. I didn't say anything but while everyone was talking about what drinks to get, he started talking to me.

     "We're gonna be here forever" "Why?" "Takes a while for us to all agree" I didn't reply, just nodded. Everyone started to walk after grabbing a few things and I took a step but Aaron grabbed my arm, so I looked up at him.

                                              Jesus I'm short, I came to his mid chest...

        "I know this is random, but I was wondering if you wanted to go get lunch tomorrow?" I was shocked.. But, I nodded and when I realized we were still standing there, I grabbed his arm and started jogging up to catch them until we were close.

                                              Then I let go and kept walking.

      Aaron was right.. We spent almost two hours inside Ralphs. Kat, Amanda, Devyn, and I stood around while the guys started putting the ice chests together and packing up the cars. Kat told them I'm guessing because we were talking about my wig and how many I have.

    "I have three, but this is for sure my favorite one. It's also the most realistic." I said while playing with it. Kat asked "Are you gonna take it off to swim?" and I felt a knot in my stomach before I shrugged "I'm not sure... People stare a lot." I said. "mostly here I've noticed" she nods before Amanda says "You don't have to, but it'll get really sandy and stuff. Plus if anyone stares, you've got eight people there to help you out" and I smiled with a slight nod.

      After another minute we were all getting into the cars and heading towards the beach. Kat was singing along with the radio, and Sam had it turned up pretty loud so Colby started dancing, so I joined him which was pretty fun. I haven't had this much fun since before I was diagnosed. I was mostly in bed at home, or when I was with friends I had to be babied.

      When the song ended Colby and I were laughing and I looked back out the window. The radio started to play a Green Day song and I sung along,

       "Do you know what's worth fighting for, When it's not worth dying for? Does it take your breath away, And you feel yourself suffocating, Does the pain weigh out the pride?, And you look for a place to hide, Did someone break your heart inside, You're in ruins" I sung along with Billie Joe Armstrong. This song, 21 guns, meant a whole lot to me. And I didn't know exactly why.

    The song soon came to an end, and I still stared outside. "Will you sing a song with me for my YouTube channel?" Kat asked, and I looked up at the front "Uh, maybe? It depends on the song" "Alright, we'll find one for both of us" she said as we came to a stop. I looked out to see we were at the beach so I got out of the car with them and I seen the other car pull up right behind us.

       When everyone was finally out we started carrying stuff down to where nobody was, where a fire pit was built. I sat down the Ralph's bag of Smore's stuff and looked over at Aaron who had just sat the ice chest down. Soon everyone mad their own ways down and Elton wad racing Colby and Corey to the water.

      I was laying out a blanket to set on, one I had bought from Ralph's. "Are you coming in the water Beverly?" I heard Devyn asked, I looked up and smiled "Hey, just a second". She smiled and I quickly kicked off my shoes and started on my shorts and shirt, keeping my arms tucked to my side to hide my Swollen Lymph nodes..

    I started playing with the ends of my hair before I slowly and shakily reached up and started pulling it up. I hadn't glued it down today as I was thinking about taking it off. "Here" I spun around to see Aaron holding a plastic bag, "This way it doesn't get sandy" I smiled and slowly tucked it in there. He tied the bag and sat it down on my towel before we started walking over to the water.

       We were the last two up by our stuff, as everyone else was already out in the water. When we got out there, I was starting to feel really self conscious about not having hair...

      I could see Strangers staring at me, and I didn't like it. "Hey fuckers! Stop staring at the poor girl!" I heard a loud voice from in front of me, I looked up to see an older man, about 30, standing with a women and two little girls. I gave him a smile and Aaron wrapped an arm around my neck and pulled me closer to him.

                                   He smelt really good... Like boy. I enjoyed that. Okay Bev, creepy.

      We walked into the water and we made our way over to everyone. He stopped walking, but I made my way over to Kat and Devyn who were talking to Corey. Kat gave me a smile and I started to dog paddle as I couldn't touch any more. "Fuck being short" I mumbled, making them both laugh.

      I was only 5'4 and I hated it a lot. My brother was 6'3! "Okay, so what do you want to do tomorrow? Let's mark more off of your list" Kat said. I gave her a smile before saying "I'm going on a date".
