Loki quietly sits on the couch in the lounging area of one the upper floors of the Avengers Tower.
Once known as Stark Tower, the tall building in New York City serves as the headquarters and living quarters of Earth's mightiest group of heroes (if you discount the X-Men, that is). The upper floors of the building make up their living quarters and the middle levels are made up of research labs, training rooms, and storage areas for their weapons and the like, while the lower floors of the building include a library, an indoor swimming pool, a game room, a small private movie theater, etcetera. Most of the bedrooms in the tower remain unused, however, as the number of members on the team remains quite small. The hope is that as their numbers grow, more and more rooms will become occupied.
The floor that Loki was currently on was the very same floor in which he had been beaten senseless by the Hulk, thrown about as if he were nothing more than a rag doll. He still hadn't forgotten about it, and he always tried to keep a safe distance between him and Banner, not wanting to become a victim to the green monster's wrath once more.
The slender god shakes his head slightly at the memory, as if trying to clear it from his mind, and returns his attention to the book in his hand. Despite him not being a fan of Midgardian culture, he had find himself growing quite fond of some of their literature. The works of Shakespeare were no exception, and as it so happens, he was currently reading Hamlet and thoroughly enjoying it.
That is until his brother came out from the elevator and loudly spoke his name.
"Loki!"A sigh escapes from Loki's lips as he pinches the bridge of his nose in annoyance. His hopes of enjoying a day without encountering the God of Thunder had been thoroughly crushed. He begrudgingly marks his place in the book and turns to face his sibling, not bothering to mask the annoyance in his voice. "What is it, Thor?"
"I've come to shake your hand, brother. Are you not pleased that you are finally a member of the Avengers? After all this time of living here and proving yourself, you are now, at last, considered one of us! A part of the family, as it were!"
This was not entirely true. While Loki is, in fact, now a fully fledged member of the Avengers, the other members of the team still don't entirely trust him (Thor included, having learned it's best not to trust him, despite wanting to), and they would not go so far as to consider him a part of the family; Thor is the only one that does.Rolling his eyes, the mischief-maker sarcastically responds, "Oh, I'm sorry. Were you hoping that I would be bouncing off the walls of this tower with joy?"
Thor bellows with laughter, his laughs nearly as loud as thunder itself. "Come now, Loki. It would not kill you to at least smile."
All he receives in response is silence and a stoic expression on his brother's face.
Thor, ignoring his indifference, keeps rambling on. "Can you fathom the fact, that just seven months ago, our companions were so reluctant to let you stay in the tower? Yet now, we have banded together in brotherhood!" He pauses. "Well, then there's Lady Natasha."
"Yes. I recall Lady Natasha throwing the first item she could reach at me when we first arrived."
"Ah, yes. I do remember that. It was a cell phone I believe, if memory serves me well." Thor chuckles. "It was fairly amusing."During the entire conversation, Tony Stark had been standing behind the bar on the floor, making himself a drink, and had stayed quiet for the most part. However, after Thor mentions the cellphone, he finally decides to chime in.
"It wasn't amusing at all. It was my phone, actually. My brand new phone." He shakes his head a takes a sip from his glass. "Not cool, especially since J.A.R.V.I.S. had just finished uploading all my contacts onto it. Do you even know how many contacts I have?"A smile appears of Thor's face. "Ah! Hello, Man of Iron!" ('Man of Iron' had become his nickname for Tony Stark.)
Flinching at Thor's loud tone, Tony covers his ears. "Hey, Point Break. What happened to using our indoor voice?"
The god of thunder frowns. "My 'voice of indoors' still eludes me." He still hasn't yet grasped what 'indoor voice' means.
Loki face palms. "You idiot. That's not..." He sighed. "Never mind." He'll have to make a point of explaining it to Thor once again later on. Then again, the fact that Thor was drunk when the Avengers has first attempted explaining to him what it meant most likely didn't help.Just then, the elevator dings, letting Steve Rogers onto the floor. He was currently fiddling with an iPad. "Excuse me. Would you guys mind helping me with this thing? I'm still not sure about how to use some of this new technology." He looks up from the device. "Also, our meeting will begin shortly."
Unable to resist the urge to poke fun at the soldier, Tony smirks and says, "Awe~ Does Capsicle need help?"
The Captain merely responds by giving Tony an impatient glare. The sound of a door opens, and Tony looks over to see Bruce Banner, who had just left the restroom, with a large cup of coffee in hand. "Hey, Bruce. How you feeling? Want a drink?"
Sighing, the scientist rubs his eyes with his free hand. "Not now, Tony. I just woke up."
The billionaire playboy puts his hands up in the air in mock surrender. "Okay, okay."Loki sighs and finally speaks up after staying silent for a while. "May I return to reading my book in peace?"
Turning to face the trickster, his signature smirk on his face, Tony simply responds, "Nope! Sorry, Reindeer Games."
The god of mischief narrows his eyes at him in response. He wasn't a fan of the nickname that Stark used for him.Steve, who was still struggling with the iPad, turns Bruce, seeking his aid. "Doctor Banner? Can you help me with this thing? I would be really grateful if you could help me."
Nodding, Bruce takes the iPad and sits down on one of the couches in the room with Steve.Moments later, Clint Barton walks in with Natasha Romanoff.
Loki lets out another sigh. "Is this parade about over? All I wanted to do was read in peace."
Ignoring his brother, Thor turns to greet the two with a grin. "Greetings, Lady Natasha and Agent Barton!"
Tony laughs. "I wouldn't exactly call Agent Romanoff a lady. She's tougher than most of the women that I know."
Clint turns to glare at Tony. "Can it, Stark."
The playboy frowns in response. "Aw, c'mon! It was a compliment! Besides, even Banner agrees with me!" He turned his head to face his fellow scientist. "Right, Bruce?"
Everyone looks expectantly at Bruce, waiting for his reply.
Looking up from the iPad in his hands, Bruce merely says the words, 'no comment'.Thor then awkwardly clears his throat. "Well then, let this meeting commence! I called you all here because I have received word from Heimdall that there is a gifted young woman who resides here on Midgard, and that she may be a threat if she is not found and brought under our protection."
Clint frowns a little and inquires as to what makes this person in particular so special.
"It is said that she has power over some of the elements, such as water, fire, and electricity. That's what Heimdall knows of, at least. You know that our enemies are always searching for ways to reign supreme over the Nine Realms. That being said, I think it would be best for us to find her first."
Steve raises an eyebrow. "Do our enemies know about her? Actually, does S.H.I.E.L.D. not know about this? I thought should would have alerted us about something like this."
Thor shakes his head. "Nay. I wished to speak with you, my brothers-" he nods at Natasha "-and sister- before alerting S.H.I.E.L.D. of her existence. As far as our enemies go, it may be best to assume that they do."
Loki, having set his book to the side, looks to his brother from his seat. "I assume Heimdall knows where this woman can be found?"
"Yes. He last saw her in a forest north of New York City, and it's not too far from here."
A grin appears on Tony's face. "Well everyone, it looks like we're going hiking!"
