Jacob's pov

I wasn't going to call Alexa.

I already knew she was taking the job.

I just needed to hear her voice.

I know we needed to talk but I just couldn't see her right now.

I did forgive her.

Yes, I was still hurt.

I was glad she was coming home.

She belonged here.

If only she had talked to me we could have made "us" work.

She could have worked for this company and we could have been together.

I think that's what hurts the most.

Was I such a bad guy that she had to leave the state just to avoid me?

Even though she's coming back I don't think we could ever be together.

I just don't see getting past this.

I would always be scared she would run again.

I was moving on.

I had a case that was huge to work on.

I would be working with the law firm that Alexa was now working for which meant I would be working with her.

We would be spending a lot of time together because of this case.

I needed to get my mind off of her.

I decided to go on a date.

To focus on another woman might help me forget all about Alexa.

She was my buddie's wife's best friend.

She was beautiful and the best part she didn't work in law she was a nurse.

Just what I needed.

Yet, all I could think about was Alexa.

Deep down she was the one I wanted.

I just couldn't be with her.

Mindy was sweet, and she wasn't a flight risk.

I picked her up and took her to a nice restaurant.

The conversation flowed very nicely.

This girl was stunning, and had a heart of gold.

She was everything a man could want in a woman.

We were having a great time.

That was until Alexa walked in with her new boss.

Seeing her literally hurt.

I wanted to reach out and touch her.

She looked so beautiful.

I paid for the check and hoped to get out of there with Mindy without being spotted.

No such luck of course.

We were almost at the door when Kit stopped me and wanted to talk.

Alexa looked from me to Mindy and the look of sadness in her eyes tore me apart.

I told Kit to call me that I needed to get Mindy home.

I put my arm on Mindy's back and walked out.

I glanced back at Alexa and saw she was looking at me.

How could I ever think I could be with anyone else?

Alexa somehow stole my heart.

Mindy was amazing.

She just wasn't the one I wanted.
