"Hello?" Jessica asked again.
A deep, unrecognizable voice appeared and said:

"Jessica."

"Who is this and what do you want from me?"

"I don't want to hurt you, Jessica. I just want to protect you from Chris Martini."

"Protect me? You're literally sick! I will find out who you are and when I do, you'll beg you never crossed my path."

"Ha ha ha. You think you're strong and able to defeat me? Let me tell you a few words, I am very close to you and I know every step you take. I didn't hack your phone or anything, but you know me so well. I've said enough, goodbye, Jessica."

"What the heck, Jess! Why didn't you just hang up the phone?"

"Elle, this person is starting to scare me. First the note, then the message, and now a call! What does he want so bad that he's trying to make sure I stay away from Chris?"

"Maybe, it's creepy Connor from elementary school."

"Don't be ridiculous, Elle. Connor is so stupid to be this professional with all the unknown shit."

"You never know..."

"Do you think I should tell Chris? Or should I wait till he calls me?"

"If it's an emergency-like, dying emergency- then call him."

"If not?"

"Then wait for his call."

Jessica waited for half an hour.

"I can't stay any longer!" Jessica took her phone and dialed his number just when his name popped up on the screen.

"It's him."

Jessica quickly answered the phone.

"Hey, Chris. I was just about to call-"

"Meet me now. In front of the park."

"I gotta go, Michelle."

"Where are you going?"

"I'll tell you later!"

Jessica drove down to the park and when she arrived, she saw Chris wearing a white shirt with his sleeves rolled up and navy blue shorts.

"Does he always have to look this attractive?" Jessica said to herself as she walked towards him.

"Hey."

"Hi. So, why'd you wanna meet up?"

"I wanted to apologize about yesterday. I know, it was very selfish of me to act like that and I didn't mean to hurt you in any way."

"No, it's cool. You can't possibly really like someone that quick."

"Yeah..."

"I wanted to call you because the anonymous called me."

"What? Again?"

"Yep. Right before you called me."

"This is getting too alarming, Jess. You can't be seeing me in public like that, he can be anywhere."

"Will you quit babbling and just focus! How are you going to reach this person anyways?

Chris took a moment and thought about his parents.

"I loved them like no other son did. As a young boy, I never thought of calamity or anything. We used to go play golf every Sunday, and we used to have those crazy pranks where my dad and I used to prank my mom. I had a strong connection with both of them. I never knew how to value time before because I never saw it coming. I know they're dead, but I still feel they're here, even if since it's been 10 years."

Jessica couldn't help but tear. She grabbed his hand and held it tightly.

"That's so sweet."

"Jessica, they were everything I had. I don't talk about them much because they bring back memories, but at some point I have to."

"Life has its ups and downs. That's what makes us humans, right?"

"Right. I promise I will do everything I can to know who this is."

"You see, my parents and I weren't that close when I was younger. My dad was a workaholic until he reached his goal, and mom was always with her friends going to dinners. Chris, every family is going to have difficulties, no family is perfect. I know all you ask is for them to be alive, but maybe there's a reason behind their death."

"You think I haven't thought about that? There is no reason! And if there is, then why haven't anything happened yet?"

"How should I know? That's for you to discover. Perhaps for later, when someone or something shows up."

While they were talking, Chris's phone rang, and it was from an unknown caller.

"Hello?"

"Did you even think about why your best friend got shot?"

"Who is this? I swear if it's some kind of-"

"You can stop saying that. What you have to know is that this is the final warning. A warning to stay out of Jessica's life."

"Are you mentally stable? Why would I listen to you?"

"Because if you don't, I can do much, much worse. Maybe track some-or all of your loved ones."

"You don't know anything about my life or my family."

"You are so naive. Have a nice day."

Chris turned off his phone fast and looked at Jessica.

"Come on, we have to go."

Chris drove Jessica's car as she sat next to him, they sped up to the police station.

"Chris, I don't think they'll be able to track him if he's that confident with what he's doing."

"Maybe, but it might lead us to something minor."

As they arrived, Chris furiously stomped into the chief's office.

"Chris! What a delight! What can I help you with?"

"Uncle, I need you to get your best trackers to track this unknown caller."

"Of course, don't you worry. Who might this young lady be?"

"This is-"

"I'm Jessica. Jessica Evans."

"Oh! Your father and I are good friends!"

Jessica lifted the corners of her mouth to show regard.

"Chief, we found a little something."

Chris and Jessica ran to the programming room.

"We don't know exactly where he is, but we found out that this person is not going to different states or anything, he's just staying in California."

"Hmm, anything else?" said Chris, forming a furrow between his eyebrows.

"No, sir."

"You were right."

"About?"

"About leading to something minor."
