Ethan wakes up by the noises of his phone and picks it up to see that Matthew is calling. Not now, he thinks to himself. Not when he just woke up from this dream. Why the hell was he dreaming of Allison? Better yet, why the hell was he dreaming about kissing her? Ethan touches the answer button on his iphone to answer.
“Decided you loved her yet?” his best friend says on the other line.
“Dude shut the fuck up!” Ethan answers back frustrated that everyone says it to him but he cannot see it. Even last night, his grandma had asked of why ‘his beautiful dark headed girlfriend’ hadn’t come over and his brother wasn’t much help, wooing and constantly bugging him about Allison. But he could not let that distract him, he had bigger problems, the game,, homecoming and Allison reef would not be the one to ruin it.
Allison sat in class thinking of the recent dream that she had. What a peculiar dream she thinks to herself. Why would she dream of Ethan McKnight out of all people! Yes, every girl in the school would practically sell their soul to the devil in order to be with him but she isn’t these girls, she hates Ethan, she would puke if she ever kissed him. So why did it seem that she enjoyed it so much in her dream.
“Allison! Allison! Allison!” the AP Bio teacher yells into Allison’s head in order to wake her up from her trance. “What is your stance on genetic engineering?” The teacher asks. Allison gathers her thought on the ethical sense of the subject and start.
“Well, like the expression says ‘if it is too good to be true, it’s not” I understand that people see the benefit on altering the genes in order to get rid of diseases but let’s not forget that humans evolve into bigger and greater things, these same genes that are thought as bad now can alter themselves to fix a genetic problem in the future. One never knows, nature doesn’t make mistake Ms, we do. If genes are altered they can cause catastrophes. Then no one will want a normal born baby, everyone will want a genetically modified child, and we all know what the parents are going to choose. Smart, doctor or lawyer, intellect, sounds good doesn’t it? Not really because then the world would be a ball of glob, boring, without life. Everywhere there will be another copy of us, like us, thoughts like us. “If it’s too good to be true, it probably is” therefore I oppose genetic engineering.”
“So maybe you’re not off your game Ms. Reef” Ms. Yang noted to her with a smile and Allison smiles back.
Ethan had not seen Allison all day and the truth is; he is aching. Coach had taken them out of class for extra practice and he didn’t even know if she came to school. They had plans to go to her house today for the project. When he had told her that he would drive, she immediately said no stating ‘I wouldn’t want you to be embarrassed because people might think that we are an item. So thanks, but no thanks, my mom bought me a car for a reason’ that situation happened yesterday over a text. And when he texted back sorry she didn’t even bother to answer. What bugs Ethan the most is not the fact that she didn’t text back; it’s been the fact that she wanted nothing to do with him period. So, when he steps out of the locker room into the spilling parking hoping that he would see her. He finds his hands being clenched into balls of fists. He does see her, but not how he wanted to. There she was flirting with Alex, one of the defenses of the football team. What the fuck? Granted Alex had never been in their groups of friends. Yes he would come to parties but he always stayed away when the football team made fun of people not because he didn’t think they were funny but because that is the image he put out. Nice guy my ass. Ethan thinks to himself. Alex had always come off to everyone as the responsible one, the one that had everything together, and that’s how he gets the girls plenty of the girls. But once he gets what he wants, he breaks it off. The problem is, with such a great attitude no one wants t believe that he is able to do these things . There they were Alex and Allison, laughing and when Alex pulls out his cell phone and updated Allison’s number in, Ethan almost had a heart attack. He walks over to them fast, but in a swift and subtle motion. “Hey!” he says to both of them but making sure to look directly at Alex. But Allison did not answer.
