G: what's up?
E: nothing, just umm... how's dad?
G: pretty good actually. He is about to take a nap.
E: okay, that's good...
...
G: is that why you called?
E: no, umm, just... why didn't you wanna come with me?
...
G: yo E listen, about what we discussed last night-
E: hold on!

Ethan jumped off the counter glanced at me and walked to the living room shutting the door behind him.
I stared at the closed door, very confused. What did they discuss last night? Something I couldn't know at least...
Maybe something for their YouTube channel, maybe it was a surprise.
No, judging the look on Ethan's face it was something personal.

Longingly I looked at the door, biting my lip.
"Don't listen at the door..." I thought to myself

I walked over to the door and put my ear to it.
It sounded like Ethan had took his phone off of speaker.

I know but...
It's not gonna happen.

We live in Los Angles Gray!
What about dad? Do you think he would wanna stay here just because-
We don't even know if she-
Stop cutting me off!
Look, I know how you feel but it is a lot to give up for someone
Well, if that wasn't your plan anyway...

As I listened I heard his voice come closer to the door.

"We'll talk later, okay? K bye."
I quietly ran to the fridge and opened it, as if I had just been looking for something.
Ethan came through the door "Sorry about that." "Oh, it's fine" I said while closing the fridge.
I handed him his glass and he followed me outside.

The sun was shining. "Do you wanna go to the pier?" I asked him. "Yeah cool." Ethan said.
I took a sip "It's just a two minute walk." "Okay" said Ethan.
We walked.
"So umm," I began "what did Gray say?"
Ethan didn't look me in the face "nothing really, as I already thought it was, it was just about our dad." "Oh." I said.
As we walked further we suddenly heard an old woman's voice "Oh what a lovely couple are you two!"
An old lady was sitting on a bench and beaming at us, her wrinkly lips pressed together in a smile.

"Oh n-" I stuttered but Ethan put his arm around me, smiled and said "thank you, we are very happy together."
I looked at him. He looked down at me "Isn't that right my sweet cotton candy?" I tried my hardest to keep a straight face "well of course, my, my pancake wi- with maple syrup..."
"Ahh, young love..." signed the old lady.
Ethan and I quickly turned the corner. He let go of me and we bursted out into laughter. "Cotton candy!" I screamed. Ethan laughed: "Pancake with maple syrup! What the heck was that?" He looked at me with his eyes shiny from little tears of laughter. "I don't know!" I said "I didn't know what to say, okay!"
Our mood had turned completely. Our conversation was a lot happier. We walked to the pier put down our empty glasses and threw little pieces of gravel over the smooth surface of the water. Ethan showed me how to throw the gravel, so that it would bounce on the water.
While we talked and laughed we lost track of time.
"Noooo!" Ethan said. He had taken off his shoe to shake out the little pieces of stone but I "accidentally" had kicked it into the water. Ethan laid flat on his stomach trying to reach for it "Oh my god..." I laid down next to him "No, let me..." I chuckled.
"My arm is longer..." said Ethan.

I stood up and Ethan squaded down reaching as low as he could.
It was too tempting...
I walked over to him "Hey umm, I'm gonna take your phone, so it won't fall in the water you know..." "That's probably a good idea" Ethan said.
I took his phone out his pocket, made sure to put it in a place where it wouldn't get splashed and very quietly walked back to Ethan.

I tried not to laugh and said "yo let me help you." Ethan didn't turn his head to me, he just said "Okay if you j-" but he was cut off when I put my hands on his back and pushed him into the water.

There was an enormous splash.
Ethan came back up gasping for air. He rubbed his eyes and shook the hair out of his face.
"Oh my god you little-" He didn't finish his sentence. He swam over to me while I was laughing my face off.
He grabbed the edge of the wooden planks I was standing on and looked up to me, grinning.
His face was slightly red and the little water drops in his hair and on his neck and face shimmered.

He pushed himself out of the water. I backed away "No Ethan..." He didn't say anything he just walked over to me. "Ethan?" I stumbled backwards "don't you-"
He leaped towards me with his arm open. I yelled and turned around to run away but he caught me.
I kicked my feet wildly as he lifted me up in the air and carried me to the edge of the pier.
"Ready to go for a swim, princess?"

Right after he said that my mind flashed back to when Grayson tackled that guy who stole my bag.

"You're welcome princess."

The memory was brutally interrupted by Ethan jumping off the pier. "Cannonball!"
He still had me trapped in his arms and I felt us swooshing through the air. I screamed.

Then we hit the surface of the water. As we sank the only thing I could hear were watery bubbles everywhere around us. The water was pretty cold but Ethan still had a tight grip on me.

It kinda felt like time had slowed down, for just a moment. But then, Ethan swam up and when we came up again, coughing and rubbing our eyes he let go of me.

He shook his head, kinda like a dog and water drops flew everywhere. "Hey!" I chuckled shielding my face with my arm.
Ethan stopped and looked at me. Then he smiled broadly.
I rolled my eyes.
