Sammy had just come into work after picking Sarah up from Ballet class. She pranced into the studio with her Bendy doll to show off her pretty tutu to the other employees.
After everyone had seen her, she went to the bathroom to change.
Sarah sat at the little desk beside her father's and doodled in her coloring book while listening to her dad's works.
Around six in the evening, Sammy prepared a small dinner that he packed for the two of them. They ate happily as Sarah shared her artwork.
At nine, the two went home for the evening. Sammy was surprised to see his old friend sitting on the porch reading the paper he neglected on the doorstep.
"Henry, long time no see!"
"Ah! Sam, I was wondering what was taking so long!" Henry chuckled.
Sam chuckled back. he looked over to the puzzled five year old next to him. He knelt down beside her.
"It's alright Sarah. Henry is a good friend of mine. He's also your godfather"
She nodded feeling a bit more relaxed around the stranger.
Sarah walked up to him.
"Is this my little Goddaughter? It can't be! You're quite tall to be little Sarah!" he teased.
She giggled.
"I'm five years old now"
"Five years? You must already be quite the business lady by now" he joked again.
"Tomorrow's daddy's birthday"
"It is?"
"Mmhmm"
"Henry, why don't you come inside, I'll start a pot of coffee" Sam gestured leading them inside.
"Sarah, it's time for bed" he called while scooping grounds into the filter.
"Yes papa! goodnight papa, goodnight Henry!" she said giving them both a hug and scampering off to brush her teeth before getting dressed for bed.
Sammy sighed as he dropped into the kitchen chair in an exhausted heap.
"What's bothering you Sam?" Henry asked as he took a drink of his fresh coffee
"Joey wants me to come in early tomorrow, but Sarah has schoolwork to do and a ballet class in the morning"
"How about I take care of that. You've got her lesson books right?"
"Yeah, right there in the study. Do you know where the dance studio is?"
"I sure do! Don't you worry, she'll be fine. After her class, we'll stop by"
"Thanks Henry"
"Do ya mind if I crash here for the night? I haven't gotten the keys to my new flat yet"
"No problem, the guest room is across the hall from Sarah's room"
"Goodnight Sam, don't let old Drew get to ya"
Henry carried his bags to the small room. Before he closed the door, he looked in at the little girl sleeping soundly as she cuddled her favorite toy.
He retreated to his room with a smile on his face.
Sammy soon went to bed as well.
