Tips and tricks to design the perfect OC

Picking names can be difficult, depending on what kind of original character you're making. Its usually better if the name has some type of meaning rather than being picked random. If your sending your oc to an oc review, reviewers don't usually take points off for names- but if its unique and has a meaning, it'll make your oc stand out to them.

If you don't know what to base your oc's name off of, here are some ideas/examples:

- the personality

- the appearance

- the relatives

... now i'll explain in further detail

PERSONALITY- if your oc is sweet and kind, you may want to pick a name that relates to that. A good example of a character whose name matches up with their personality is Kotori Minami from the anime Love Live! School idol project. Her name means "little bird" and small things are usually associated with cute and kind things. "Kotori is shown to be very kind and supportive to her friends and genuinely cares about them, especially their feelings." To quote the website love-live.wikia.com.

APPEARANCE- if your oc has certain feature that reminds you of something, then find a name that relates to that. I have two good examples of this, the first one is Mamushi Hojo from the anime Blue Exorcist and the second one is Chibiusa Tsukino from the anime Sailor Moon. 'Mamushi' is the name of a type of Japanese snake, the name fits her perfectly because "her eyes resemble the sharp stare of a snake" to quote the website aonoexorcist.wikia.com . Chibiusa's name roughly translates to "Little rabbit" and "she wears her hair in odango, though instead of the buns being round, they are styled to look like rabbits ears" to quote the website sailormoon.wikia.com

RELATIVES- Now there are many things relating to this one, I will describe three and give an example for two of them. 1) brothers and sisters have names both starting with the same letter 2) brothers and/or sisters have names that mean the opposite 3) Oc is named after a grandma or grandpa or parent, etc. An example for brothers and sisters having names that start with the same letter is Ran and Ren Tachibana from the anime Free! And an example of brothers and/or sisters having names that mean the opposite is Renzo and Kinzo Shima from the anime Blue Exorcist. Kinzo's name means "gold" and Renzo's name means "cheap/humble/pure/honest"
