We finally arrived back at base, the smell of pizza and a hint of hazelnut, probably the creamer, filling the air. Nick appeared from the kitchen and walked towards us.
'How did it go? he asked, his arms folded and his voice calm.
'Urm, without a hitch..' Cameron answered, clearly trying to hide what actually happened.
Nick just stared at him as if he was waiting for Cam to finish speaking.
'You already know don't you' Cameron queried.
'Yep' he replied blunty as he pulled a chair out for himself.
'I like this team, and i think you have real potential as heroes. First, tell me, who's on this team?' he said, looking around the room at each of us.
Cameron looked at me. I raised my eyebrows and shrugged my shoulders, in order to tell him that it was his decision. He looked at the rest of his team for support but they all just stared blankly back.
'Ur.. urm.' He started, clearly torn.
'Me Cameron, Winter, Preston, Toby'. He paused looking over to Camille and I.
'Ur.. Camille and Nora. Thats our team'. He finished, causing me and Camille to sneakily high-five behind our backs.
'And what do each of you bring to the team?' He asked next.
The rest of us walked to the kitchen whilst Cameron finished up with him.
'We still have to run tests you know?' Preston said as he began peeling an orange.
'Yeah, i know' i glared back.
'I still can't believe you have powers!' Camille said as she looked at her hands.
'I wish i could control water'
'Lets run some tests now, figure out if theres any other abilities that wish to reveal themselves' Preston said as he tossed some of the orange peel in the bin and headed for the stairs.
'I'll come with' Winter said, clearly trying to get away from Toby as he was flicking left over bits of peel at her.
'Me too' he said, putting one last bit down the back of Winter's top and jogging past her.
'I swear to god.. TOBY!' she screamed throwing herself around trying to get it out.
I rolled my eyes as he sprinted past me, however i couldnt help but let out a little grin.
'Nora! Come on' i heard Preston yell.
I sighed, then went through to him.
The next half hour was pretty boring. It consisted of a couple blood tests, and constant testing of my water abilities.
Toby and Winter were messing around. Well, actually Toby was messing around and Winter was laughing at him and occassionally getting annoyed. Basically, everyone was being themselves.
Suddenly i hear a loud bang and i was thrown out of my daydream. I span my head so fast that i'm surprised i didnt get whiplash.
'Toby!' I hear Winter scold.
'Oh my god!' Cameron yelled.
I leap out of my chair to the railing of the stairs, looking out over the desks. I see Cameron staring at the roof and Winter looking in the same place from beside me. A large, industrial size light was shaking violently and was clearly about to fall.
'Cameron, move!' I scream, holding my hands out as the light finally drops directly above his head.
I close my eyes, waiting for the crash as it hits the ground. Waiting. Still waiting.
I open my eyes to see two large vines holding the light slightly above the ground, one coming from each of my hands.
'Guess we found another power of yours..' Preston said, appearing from behind me.
I lowered the light to the ground and let go of the vines, then ran downstairs towards Toby.
'What the hell happened Toby?' I questioned looking at the light on the floor.
'I was throwing stuff at Winter, and i hit the light' i said as he inspected the vines on the floor.
'Throwing what?' I queried further.
'At the time.. a watermelon' he stood up, facing me.
'A WATERMEL.. for gods sake' i said looking up to Winter, still on the stairs.
'Are you okay?' I asked as she began to come down.
'Me? Im fine. Care to tell us about anything else you got up your sleeve?' She asked.
'Trust me. I've been finding out exactly when you do' I sighed then started to pick up bits of the broken light to take to the trash.
'Here, i'll help' Toby said, walking over to me.
'Damn right you will! This is your bloody mess!' I exclaimed, grinning at him and letting out a little giggle.***********************************
Later that day, i was sat at the kitchen table with my laptop, writing up a case report for the chem lab. I know we dont have to but i figured it would look good to Fury, and i literally had nothing to do.
'Hey' Camille yawned as she sat beside me.
'Hey' i replied as i took a swig of her coffee then passed it back to her.
'Toby and Preston went to bed, when do you want to leave?' She asked, looking over my shoulder at the computer screen.
'No rush' Winter added as she joined us at the table.
'I dont know. I just cant stop think about these.. powers. If i have more. What else that blade has done to me.' I said closing my laptop and looking between the two girls.
'We'll figure it out' Winter said, trying to reassure me.
'Yeah' i sighed, my mind whirling with thoughts.
'You're more than welcome to stay here tonight.' Cameron said as he made his way to the fridge.
'You can take my bed, i've got a lot of work to do tonight anyway so i can take the sofa' he added.
I looked over to Camille.
'Sleepover?' Camille asked, clearly excited to be staying.
'Last time we had one of them, things didnt exactly go to plan..' i stated, thinking of last night.
'Lets see how this one goes!' she replied, dragging me out of my chair and towards the stairs.
'Night!' I called back to Cam and Winter as they grinned back, half waving.
