"Justin, I can't tell you." Her voice was softer than he has ever heard. Her hands played with his fingers as he shook his head.
"Why not? Did Laura do something to you? Did you do something?" His voice was laced with urgency and concern as he grabbed her hand to stop them from fidgeting. She looked to the floor as tears formed in her eyes.
"Justin, let it got." She pulled her hands away from. She did not want to see the same pity in his eyes as she sees from everyone else. She wanted him to look at her as though she was not a broken girl. She wanted to be beautiful in someone's eyes.
"I can't let it go. Someone hurt you." He took her sleeve and raised it, "This isn't ok, Clarence! Who did this to you?"
"Justin, if I tell you then-"
"Then I can help you!" Justin's voice raised only slightly. His eyes were filled with the naïve thought that she could be saved by anyone, but herself.
"You can't help me! No one can fucking help me, Justin!" The tears that hid in her eyes finally fell as she screamed at him. Her voice was loud and determined while her eyes were giving away how heartbroken she was.
"Clare..." Justin was caught off guard by her statement.
"Because I did it to myself! It was my fault this happened. If it wasn't for me, this wouldn't have happened!" She yelled as the tears kept coming down her face. She pulled away from his grasped and wrapped her arms around herself
"Clare, whatever happened is not your fault." When Justin touched her arm, she flinched back. He quickly removed his hand when he saw this, yet he knew she didn't mean for it to hurt him.
"Yes, it is! Just look at me, Justin!" She finally met his eyes, and Justin never saw a person so broke. Whenever he saw her before he only ever saw the beauty, and the light in her eyes. Now he sees he was wrong. It was not light that was in her eyes nor was it beauty. Her eyes held pain, sorrow, and darkness. He finally realized she was just a broken girl. She hugged herself tighter as the sobs agonized her body.
"I think I finally am looking, Clare." Justin wrapped his arms around her waist, and didn't let go when she tried to push him away. He couldn't let her go. He couldn't let her deal with whatever it was by herself.
"You're just going to hurt me!" She pushed at his chest, and yelled, "Just like him, or you will leave me...like everyone else."
"Clare, I'm not him, whoever he is." Justin held on tighter as she hit his chest. Her hits were like a kitten's, yet her sobs were like a lion. He closed his eyes, and tried to ignore what was tearing at him.
"Just give up on me!" She screamed, this made Justin's eyes snap open. His eyes widen in shock as the words left her mouth. Her yells were oddly quiet compared to others, but her scream was louder than anyone else's. Her eyes were red and tired from all the tears, and her voice was scratchy from the yelling.
"Clarence, I can't give up on you. I lo-"
"Don't say it! Just don't." Her voice went back to its normal softness, and her hands stopped pushing him. "I-I can't hear more lies."
"Clare, I wouldn't lie to you." One of his hands landed on her cheeks to wipe away the tears, "You can tell me when you are ready."
"That's the thing, Justin. I never will be, and if I had it my way, you will never know." Clarence pushed away from him, and he let her. He had no idea what could damage Clarence to this point. "If I had it my way, you would never had kiss me. You would never had to deal with me. You would never-"
"Clare, I love-"
"Don't say it! Too many people say that, and they never mean it."
"Clarence, you know I love you. So, why the hell are you telling teachers you have a hard time at home? Did you honestly think I wouldn't hear that?" His voice hissed in her ear as he gripped her arms tighter. When his hands disappeared, the floor suddenly had her.
"Clarence, you made me think that Romeo wasn't just a crazy fuck boy. Is that better?" Justin's voice was light, and tried to lighten the mood. Clarence gave a small laugh as she pulled at her sleeves.
"I don't think Juliette was crazy now, either." She gave him a sad smile as he smiled back.
"It would be awkward if you did." Clarence nodded in agreement. Justin gave her a small laugh, "Alright, sunshine, I have cookies for you."
"Sunshine?" Her voice was filled with questions, but the smile never left her lips.
"Well, you did make me promise to think of you like the sun rise. Which I think is a perfect fit, you are bright and beautiful, yet you have the mysteries of the moon." Clarence gave him the 'bullshit' look, "Ok, so maybe I found that online, but shut up."
Clarence laughed as he handed her a cookie, "Do you really want me to shut up?"
"Hmm, only if it's because you are kissing me." He smiled at her. She quickly leaned in, and pecked his lips. "Only time you should shut up."
Clarence rolled her eyes, and bit into her cookie. Justin gave her a smile, and bit into one for himself. Both of them gave each other a look of disgust before spitting them out.
"Who made those?" Clarence said after she got a cup of tea to drown the taste.
"Avery and Charlotte." Justin coughed out as he took Clarence's drink, and drank it.
"Can we throw them over the cliff? No one deserves to eat those." Clarence laughed as Justin nodded.
"That's the only place for them." Justin and Clarence made their way to the edge of the cliff with the cookies.
"Goodbye, worst cookies ever!" Clarence yelled as she threw a few which made Justin laugh.
"Good riddance!" He shouted, and threw the rest. When all the cookies were gone, Clarence looked at the rising sun. How the colors looked over the forest, and they looked on Justin's smiling face.
"It's beautiful out here." Clarence looked at Justin with a smile.
"You're beautiful out here." He winked at her.
"You did not just wink at me!" Clarence covered her mouth to quiet her laughter. Justin grabbed her hands, and held one in each hand by her face.
"So what if I did?" He smirked at her. Clarence rolled her eyes in response.
"I would say you were a dork." Clarence stuck her tongue out at him as he laughed.
"As long as I am your dork." He winked again causing Clarence to cringe.
"Maybe not if you wink again." Their laughter rang through the trees as Clarence forgot her problems for the time being. She forgot she was leaving on Friday, she forgot that her scars will never fade, she forgot that Justin will have find a new tutor. She forgot it all as her laughter rang through the trees.
