Every river in India is considered holy and worshipped except one. Karmanasa River, a tributary of River Ganga, flows through the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. It is believed that touching the water of this river disrupts one’s plans. Even people dwelling in the surroundings of the river consume dry fruits as cooking requires water. Legend has it that sage Vishwamitra set out to create a new universe and sent Trishanku to rule the new world. However, Lord Indra stalled the attempt which left Trishanku hanging upside down in the mid air. It is assumed that the Karmanasa River was born from the saliva dripping from his mouth.
