In the Hansen residence...

Heidi smiled at Evan. "Have you been writing those letters to yourself, 'Dear Evan Hansen this is gonna be a good day and here's why:'?" She asked, humming as she made toast. Evan leaned against the counter nervously. "I started one.." He replied, looking at his mother.

"Those letters are important honey, they're gonna help you build your confidence!" Heidi beamed, putting the toast on a small plate.

"I guess." Evan murmured, eyeing the toast Heidi had passed him. It was fairly cooked, and he loved it. Toast was his favorite food, alongside pizza. Heidi began to speak again.

"Can we try to have an optimistic outlook, huh? Can we back up just enough to see the word won't fall apart? Maybe this year we decide, we're not giving up before we've tried, this year we make a new start!" Evan huffed and ate a slice of toast.

"Hey I know! You can go around today and ask the other kids to sign your cast! How bout that?" Heidi grinned, watching Evan's expressions change. "Perfect." Evan replied.

"I'm proud of you already!" Heidi exclaimed as she pinched Evan's cheeks, causing him to whine. "Oh." He murmured, rubbing his cheeks. He then left for school

In the Murphy residence...

Cynthia sighed. "It's your senior year Connor, you are not missing the first day!" She exclaimed. Connor crossed his arms casually. "I already said, I'd go tomorrow." He replied, stepping around the kitchen.

Larry sighed. "He doesn't listen. Look at him," he gestured his hand to Connor, rummaging through the fridge. "He's probably high." He said, putting his hand down. Zoe rolled her eyes, scoffing as well. "He's definitely high..." She murmured, scrolling through her feed on her phone at the table, while eating breakfast.

Cynthia went over to Connor. "I don't want you going to school high, Connor!" She spoke, her voice carrying a wave of worry. Connor had a carton of milk in his hand, closing the fridge to face his mother. "Perfect, so then I won't go." He said simply, drinking the rest of the milk. He set the empty carton aside as Cynthia waved him off. "Thanks mom!" He smirked, going upstairs.

"Another masterful attempt ends with disaster..." Cynthia murmured. "Interstates already jammed..." Larry huffed, putting his newspaper down. Cynthia sighed again. "Pour another cup of coffee, and watch it all crash and burn.." Zoe got out of her seat to throw away the empty carton of milk, groaning. "Connor finished the milk!" She whined, going upstairs to finish her morning routine.

"It's a puzzle, it's a maze...I tried to stay through it a million ways but each days another wrong turn..." Cynthia murmured. "I better head out." Larry said as he kissed Cynthia's cheek, heading out of the door. "If Connors not ready I'm leaving without him!" Zoe called from upstairs.

In the L/n residence...

"Mom where's my brush?!" You ask in a rush, finally finding it. "Never mind!" You shout, pulling your hair up. You sling your bag over your shoulder and slide down the railing, jumping off and dashing into the kitchen. Your two brothers, Johnathan and Booker, had already gotten a great handful of the bacon, leaving only two strips for you. "Mom!" You huff. Turning around, your mother, m/n looked at you. "What?" She asked, smiling. "Johnny and Booker ate all the bacon!" You whine, angrily snapping your jaws shut, chewing on the strips.

"I'm sorry honey, try to beat them next time...or just don't dwell on it so much, I gotta go, c'mon boys!" She replied, as the boys got out of their seats and ran out of the door with their bags, shouting and laughing. Both boys are eight, and are starting their first day of fifth grade, they got bumped up! They're smart, but little jerks.

You rush out of the door with your bag and your phone, and to your bus stop. You wait with a few other kids, huffing to yourself.

Dear y/n l/n, today is going to be a good day, and here's why: because you're starting fresh at a new house, and a new school, and new reputation, and today at least you're you...and, that's enough.

Sincerely,

              F/n l/n
