Chapter 5

"Tell me a little bit about yourself." I say. "Well... I love reading... and I'm an English Literature Major."

"Really? I'm an English Lit major myself." I say. "You don't seem like the type to be in that major." He says.

"A lot of people say that. They also don't believe me when I say I go to Kamii." I say. "You go there? I do too." Kaneki says excitedly.

"Why have I never seen you around?" I ask. "I spend most of my time with my friend, Hide." "Wait you know Hide too? What the hell?" I say with a laugh.

"It's amazing that we've never met." Kaneki says while looking at his shoes. "Yeah... you look like you should get out more." I say.

"Huh? What do you mean?" He asks. "Have you only ever been within the 20th ward?" I ask.

He nods. "Well in that case, I'll show you around some of the other wards tomorrow." I say.

"But what about classes?" He asks. "We don't have classes tomorrow, silly." I say with a smile.

"Oh... I didn't know..." "Have you not been going to classes lately?" I ask. "Yeah... I'm kinda just afraid..."

"Afraid of what?" "Me being a ghoul..." I look over to him. "Kaneki, you're not alone. And if you feel afraid, talk to me. Or anyone else. That's why you're at Anteiku." I say.

"You mean that?" He asks. "Of course I do. We're like your family now." I say. He stayed silent.

"...where are your parents?" He asks. "Gone. Somewhere. I don't know where. Ever since Mr. Yoshimura found me, he's been like a dad I've never had."

"Oh... well this is my stop." I look up to see some apartments. "Have a good night Kaneki. I'll pick you up tomorrow around 10 so don't be late." I say as I begin to walk off.

"Bye..." he mutters as I leave. I walk through the empty streets towards my house. Once I arrive, I instantly go to bed.

I stretch myself as I heard a my doorbell ring. I get up and go get it. I open the door and there stood the mailman.

"Hello Ma'm. Sorry to bother you but I have this important package that must be delivered at Koutarou Amon and he doesn't appear to be home. So would you take care of it until he gets it?"

"Sure. Thank you for letting me know." I say as I take the package. I shut the door and leave the package on my kitchen island as I head for my room.

I quickly get dressed in something comfortable. I check the time. 9:03. I have time so I'll drop off his package.

I walk out my house and quickly head to the hospital via bus. I reach the front desk. "Hello." I say.

"Yes? How may I help you?" The lady asks. "I'm here to see Koutarou Amon? He's a friend of mine." I say.

She searches on her computer. "He's on floor 5 room 8." I nod and thank her as I get in the elevator.

I reach the room as I slowly walk in. "Amber. You're here." Koutarou says as he sees me. "Yeah. The mailman needed to give you a package so I thought I should deliver it to you." I say.
