Chapter 6

Kaneki runs inside Anteiku and every customer turn to him. "Um...hello!" He says as he runs to the back.

"Mr. Yoshimura!" Mr. Yoshimura turns to see a breathless Kaneki. "Yes?" "It's Amber! We were walking here and this binge eater decided to show up!"

"And the problem is?" Mr. Yoshimura asks with a calm expression. "Amber is fighting him alone!"

"I see no problem there." He replies. "B-Bu-" Kaneki stutters out. "Kaneki, Amber is a very skilled ghoul."

Kaneki stands there in confusion. "Let me explain. Amber is... something different. I haven't seen everything that she is capable of but I know that what I've seen is powerful."

"But I can't leave her!" Kaneki yells out. "I'm sure she's told you about her past?" He calmly states. Kaneki shakes his head.

"I've had her under my wing since she was about 4. And growing up, she didn't want to be a ghoul."

"Is that why she starved?" Kaneki asks. "So she told you about that. Well, yes. She did starve, but not for long."

"What happened when she starved?" Kaneki asks, curiously. "She went on a massive rampage in the 7th ward, that's why we moved here. For a fresh start."

"But can't we help her regardless of the situation?" Kaneki asks. "She knows when she can handle anyone. She knows her limits."

"So when should she be back?" He asks. "I would say that she'd be back in about 20 minutes. Or less."

"How are you so confident in her?" Kaneki asks. "Because I know almost everything about her."

"Look Kaneki, relax, she'll be back in no time. Why don't you start your shift?" Kaneki sighs as he walks out of the lounge.

Kaneki was serving another customer as the bell to the door rang. "Welcome to Antei- Amber!"

"Sup guys." She says as she goes in the back. Kaneki quickly serves everyone and head to the back.

He sees her casually putting on her apron. "Amber! Are you okay?" Kaneki asks as he comes near her.

"Yeah. I'm fine. Next time just run away when I tell you to. That guy was a real pain in the to handle." She says as she leans on the counter.

"You aren't hurt are you?" He asks her. " I was but I regenerate fast." She replies as she was about to walk out the door.

"You really had me worried. Mr. Yoshimura said not to come get you." Kaneki says. Amber turns to him.

"Of course he'd say that. One thing to take down my friend, do not interfere with my battles when I have my kagune out."

Kaneki just stands there as Amber walks out. He sighs as he then walks out to.

"Goodnight everyone!" Amber and Kaneki bid farewell as they exit Anteiku. The walk was filled with painful silence.

"So..." Kaneki says breaking the silence. "So what?" Amber questions. "What did you do with that guy?" He asks.

"You don't want to know..." Amber says in a deathly tone. Kaneki gulps. Amber then laughs at his reaction.

"I'm just kidding. I just showed him not to mess with me and I left. I didn't kill him if that's what you're wondering." Amber replies.

"Oh... well that's good..." Kaneki mutters. "You know, you shouldn't trust anyone these days Kaneki."

"What do you mean by that?" He asks her curiously. "Don't become close with anyone. Especially if they're friends." Amber says.

Kaneki stays quiet. "I'm looking out for my brethren. I don't want what happened to you with Rize to happen again okay?"

Kaneki nods towards her. "Well... goodnight." She says as she walks off. Kaneki painfully makes it up the stairs.

Amber walks through her dark neighborhood as she sees the lights on in her neighbors home. She walks over and rings the doorbell, waiting for a response.

The door opens to reveal her tall neighbor. "You came. Come in." Amber walks in. "Of course I came." She says.

She walks over to his kitchen and begins to make the coffee while having a conversation with him.

"You know, it was strange." He says. "What is?" She asks. "I was saved the other night... by a ghoul." He says.

Amber pretends to act surprised. "Really? If you don't mind me asking. Which ghoul was it?"

"It was... the Black Eyed Cat." He replies. She finishes the coffee as she goes to get the cups out of a top cabinet.

As she reaches for two cups. She accidentally drops and breaks one. "I'm sorry! I'll pick it up." Amber says as she quickly grabs the broom.

"No worries. Here. Let me help." She goes to sweep as Koutarou holds the dust pan for her. Once done, he throws away the broke pieces.

Amber relaxes as she pours coffee in the cups. She slides over his coffee cup as she takes her seat beside him.

"I really appreciate everything you've done for me Amber." Koutarou says. "It's all in a days work." Amber replies with a smile.

"The package that you gave me today would have cost me my job if you didn't give it to me." Koutarou says.

"How so?" She asks as she takes a sip of her cup. "Well... it had some very important documents that needed to be filled out as well as some other items for work."

"And you turned them in before you came home?" She asks. "Yeah..." a silence filled the room.

"Amber... I'm going to be straightforward with you right now." Koutarou says. Amber listens intently.

"I have feelings for you."
