You had almost every class with Hermione since year one, it was now year five and you were starting to pack up the courage to tell her how you truly felt. You were a Slytherin so you figured Hermione wouldn't be interested in you, but your friends kept telling you that if she really liked you, your house wouldn't matter to her and you agreed. You sat next to her in potions so you figured that would be the best time to ask her out.
As you entered the classroom you felt your heart flutter in your chest. Hermione was early, per usual, and she already had her textbook opened up to the right page. "Here goes nothing...". You muttered as you took your seat next to the brightest witch of her age.
"Hi." You said with a smile.
Hermione continued to read her textbook until she noticed that you were staring at her.
"I'm sorry, did you say something?" She asked as she furrowed her brows.
"Ah, no, never mind...". You said quietly. Your cheeks began to turn bright red with embarrassment. Hermione noticed and put her hand on your arm reassuringly.
"Hey [Y/n], it's okay. This assignment is going to be somewhat difficult but I can help you if you'd like?"
She thinks I need help with the assignment? I just want to ask her out...
"Y-yeah, I'd love that." You say nervously.
"No need to be nervous. Want to go to the library after class?" She said eagerly.
"Sounds like a plan." You say a bit more confidently.
Class seemed to drag on and you couldn't wait for it to be over so that you could spend time in the library with Hermione. All throughout class she was extremely focused on learning the new material and you couldn't help but admire how cute she looked. Her chocolate brown eyes never left the professor and her light brown hair fell in loose curls down her back. Every so often she would take her quill and jot down some notes quickly before immediately directing her attention back to the professor.
"[Y/n], eyes upfront, you can check out Miss Granger after class." The professor said with a stern tone. You could feel your entire body tense and your face turned scarlet. Out of the corner of your eye you could see Hermione looking down at her notebook and blushing as well. You figured the best thing to do would be to pretend nothing happened; it would only make things worse if you addressed the situation.
After class Hermione asked you once more if still wanted to study together in the library and you could only nod your head. The two of you walked swiftly towards the library and then entered a study room. Study rooms had been created so students could create potions or practice casting spells without disturbing other students. The two of you sat down at a table and cracked open your books. Hermione had brought a small cauldron and set it in the middle of the table.
"Okay, so today we're going to creating a potion. We reviewed some of this today in class but we're going to finish going over it next class so now you'll be ahead." She began to pull some potions bottles out of her bag and set them in front of you.
"What I want you to do is read this page in the textbook and then prepare the potion. If you need any helps I'll guide you." Hermione said."O-okay." You read the page and studied every word carefully before you began to open various bottles and dump them in. You felt nervous with Hermione's gaze on you but you proceeded with creating the potion. After about twenty minutes you had completed the task. Hermione smiled at you, and you couldn't help but smile too.
"You did a great job, exactly how it's supposed to be done."
"Thanks, but I wouldn't have been able to do it without you."
"[Y/n], you're not giving yourself enough credit, you did just fine on your own. Do you know what kind of potion you created?"
You opened your mouth to give her an answer, but you stopped yourself because you realized that you hadn't even paid attention to what you were making.
"Um... It's um..."
"It's a love potion." Hermione said. She watched as you raised and eyebrow mischievously at her response.
"Don't be getting any ideas, you don't need to use a love potion on me in order to ask me out on a date. Maybe if you just ask me I'll say yes." She said with a smirk.
"Hermione, would you like to go on a date with me?" You asked cautiously.
"Yes, Three Broomsticks, tonight at 8, I'll see you then." She grabbed her books and left you standing alone in the study room in complete and utter shock.
