A semi-constant pounding on her door has Taylor on her feet in a matter of minutes, even though the knocking must have started long before she ever realized she was even awake. She tries to wipe tired sleep out of her eyes, clenching a tissue in one hand and blowing her nose into it as she approaches the noise that’s much more amplified in her ears than usual due to her sickness.
Finally the knocking stops as Taylor reaches for the door knob, ready to scold whoever it was waking her up this early in the morning, especially on a sick day. Opening the door, Taylor tries to restrain from rolling her eyes when she sees that it’s Ed, standing in front of her like a lost puppy searching for shelter.
Of course he’s here, even with her insistent warnings through the phone not telling him not to come because she feared of spreading her cold, he’s here. But in the back of her head Taylor knew that his seemingly convincing agreement not to visit her was an empty one, and that the next morning she’d be standing right where she was now.
"This could be deadly, you know. And infectious." Taylor doesn’t even try to pretend she’s surprised that he disobeyed her by showing up, as she points to her sniffling nose a shade of red, "I’m serious Ed, you have a tour coming up and I’m sure the last thing you want is-"
Ed’s lips interrupt her with a quick but loving kiss, stealing the rest of her sentence through the pressure of his mouth. Taylor scrunches her nose as he pulls away, his hands now gently resting on the joints of her hips.
"Don’t give me that look," Ed says with a condescending smile, allowing himself to enter the room, holding her hand and leading her along with him, "Love is the cure of all sicknesses, anyway."
Taylor shuts the door and follows him into the room, giggling at his cheesy comment, but appreciating his way of defending himself.
A yawn escapes Taylor’s lips as she drops onto the couch, and is surprised as she sees Ed separate from her and travel into the kitchen instead. Taylor’s eyebrows rise as she stretches her neck a little in effort to see what he’s up to now.
"Babe?" She calls out, wrapping a blanket around her.
"Yeah" he replies, and for some reason it sounds like he’s miles away.
"Need help?" She offers, even though she really doesn’t feel up to compromising her comfortable position on the couch.
"No, I’m alright in here. You just relax." He assures her seconds later, as Taylor hears the sound of several cupboards opening and closing. She wonders what he’s doing, or planning on doing, but all suspicions are put aside when she hears the sound of the stove being turned on, and she reaches for the remote and turns on the T.V., flipping through several channels before landing on a re-run of Grey’s Anatomy.
Within minutes Ed walks back into the room, balancing two cups of tea in his hands. Taylor bursts with joy at the sight, and her hands cover each other the center of her chest, as if to show her gratitude without having to actually say anything.
He settles down next to her, and smiles when he sees her flick her tongue out quickly at the surface of the liquid, testing the heat several times before bringing it up to her lips for a short sip. A gesture he’s seen a million times before but can’t help find even more cuter every time it repeats itself.
Ed watches as Taylor looks completely invested into the television screen, finding her wild blonde hair struggling to contain itself in the tight ponytail she’s wearing and her red nose twitching every once and awhile ridiculously cute. Taylor leans against him as they finish their cups of tea, squeezing her head underneath his chin as she closes her eyes for a moment.
His colorful arm rubs up and down her cold arm, warming her skin as he presses light kisses upon her forehead in between breaths.
Knowing she probably was cut short of sleep due to his early arrival, he waits until her breathing turns heavy before picking her up, carrying her back towards the bedroom.
She mumbles something he can’t quite decipher, as her head rests into the crane of his neck, and her arms hold tight around his neck, legs dangling past his other arm.
He sets her down on the bed carefully, watching her twist a little as she comes into contact with the mattress, making herself comfortable. He feels like his heart is about to explode by the way Taylor looks sleeping, so peaceful and beautiful, an image he’ll never be able to get enough of. He pulls a blanket over her, leaving a light kiss on the top of her forehead before returning to the previous room to turn off the T.V. and clean up the empty leftover cups.
After washing them, Ed journeys into Taylor’s closet and can’t say he’s surprised to find various different choices of clothing to change into that previously belonged to him, but guessing by their current location, now found ownership under Taylor.
After reuniting with an old pair of shirt and shorts, Ed walks back to Taylor’s bed where a spot has been left open just for him.
He slips underneath the covers next to her, and like natural instinct, Taylor scoots in closer towards his warmth, her head burying itself into his neck. He smells like home to her, but more importantly feels like it, and finds herself absentmindedly smiling at his scent.
Ed pulls her in tight towards him, an arm wrapping around her side and legs tangling with hers. Taylor takes a deep breath before waking up momentarily to whisper into his skin, “Maybe you’re right.” She says, arms hugging his around his waist.
"Hm?" Ed asks, rubbing a hand up and down her back.
"Maybe love really is the cure of all sicknesses." She tells him, "Well at least it is for this one." She adds, and opens her eyes to look up into his eyes lovingly, "Thank you."
Ed concentrates on her words, and wishes only to tell her the same thing. Tell her thank you for every call she accepts in the middle of the night because sometimes Ed just couldn’t wait to tell her something exciting, and finds it’s usually her who he longs to call first should exciting things occur; Thank you for always believing in him and never ceasing to do so even on days he felt like just quitting, it was Taylor’s voice acting as a guiding light to aid him during those times where nothing felt right and the world was spinning too fast, she reminded him that he’s not alone and never is, that it’s okay to feel those emotions because he’s only human, and not every plant blossomed the same way.
He wants to thank her for never shutting the door on him, even on the days he deserved it. Her door was always open, there was never even really a need for her to give him the keys. His love for her builds within ever kiss, whether it be passionate and deep or quick yet intimate. Their bond grows stronger with every “I love you.” but also every “I don’t need this right now.” Ed never thought feeling these emotions could be so climatic until being with Taylor. As if he lived his entire life in some viral blur without even realizing it until meeting Taylor and it was as if everything he’d once thought he’d known before was retaught through the sound of her laugh and sparkle in her never ending ocean blue eyes.
So instead of simply saying “thank you” he kisses her with everything he has, and his message is successfully delivered as Taylor smiles against his sweet lips, closing in on the back of his head to hold the pressure against her mouth, even if it were just a little while.
"I love you." Ed says, a thumb rubbing delicately tracing her along her cheekbone.
"I love you too." Taylor says with a wide smile spreading across her lips, feeling as if she’d just discovered the answer to what so happened to be a very simple math problem in the first place; Ed was her cure of all cures, and there was never a single doubt in Taylor’s mind that that was ever going to change.
