2. Memories

- - -

The demoted prince was once again sent off to a different place.

While he was facing difficulties, the two royal sisters back at Arendelle were having a great time. Elsa, who accepted that she is the queen of her kingdom, lets her gloves go. As for her Majesty's sister, Princess Anna, she was given the chance to go around their kingdom whenever she likes.

The gates were finally open after years of being shut. Like the gates, Queen Elsa too opens up her heart. If she ever felt sad, she would go to her sister for advice.

Kristoff was invited to stay in the castle with the sisters, as he didn't have a house of his own. He took the offer gratefully, mostly because he would get to see Anna everyday rather than to have a cozy house.

Sven and Olaf were considered as family, too. Sven had a life time supply of carrots all for himself and Olaf had his own snowy room so he wouldn't melt.

After the ceremony for the open gates ended, which ended at dusk, Elsa walked back in the castle. She had never thought that she would make friends other than Anna.

The queen walked down the hallway to her study. She stood in front of the portrait of her father during his coronation. She sighed as she wondered if she could be a great ruler for her people.

She remembered the last thing her father told her. "You'll be fine, Elsa."

All of a sudden, she wished that she had spent more time with her parents. She wasted all that time staying away from them, never realizing that even though they were safe from her powers, they wouldn't be safe from the outside world.

Elsa felt a tear trickle down her cheek and she quickly wiped it away with her napkin. She looked at her father's portrait. "I will do my best, papa. I promise, I will not let danger fall upon our people." She said, pretending that her father was really there with her.

She left the study and headed towards the castle's huge library. She sat on the arm chair that faced the fireplace. She didn't bother to light up the fireplace as she liked the cold much better. She shut her eyes and wondered...

Where could that Prince Hans be?

Questions started zooming in and out of her head once she thought about him. She remembered when she was a little girl, when Anna was just a one year old, he came for a play date with her.

It was a nice summer day when the royal family of the Southern Isles came to Arendelle. The two kingdom rulers were only seeing each other to have a meeting.

Elsa saw a boy with auburn hair. The boy was the first to say "hello". She learned that his name was Hans. He was two years older than her. The two started talking and she remembered that they couldn't stop chattering.

Elsa somehow started to fall in love with Hans in that short time. She thought it was love at first sight, like all the princess storybooks she used to read when she was little.

Although she loved the boy, she still kept her powers a secret. She had made a promise to her parents to never let anyone know about her magic to friends.

But eventually, Hans had to go back to the Southern Isles. He promised to keep in touch with Elsa. Everyday, she would ask her parents, "Will Hans be back?"

Hans broke that promise. Elsa lost interest in him. That was the end of their story, until a sequel was made on her coronation.

She was heartbroken to know that Hans preferred Anna over her. She might have thought that Hans had forgotten her since he did not recognize her on her coronation.

"You can't marry a man you just met." She had said in front of Hans and Anna. She secretly had a thought in her mind, and that was, "You can't marry a man who your sister fell for first."

Elsa was even more heartbroken to know that he tricked her and Anna, and that he tried to kill her.

But the queen wanted answers. Why did he want to kill me and my sister? Was anybody talking him into doing it? If so, who?

A hundred thoughts ran through her head. Then, she felt a slight tap on her shoulder. She opened her eyes and turned around to see her loyal servant, Kai.

"Queen Elsa, you have paper work to do. You also have letters that need to be read, and the castle's workers' salary to be paid." He said, Elsa nodding at each sentence he said.

Elsa looked around. "So, uh, where do we start?" She asked Kai.

He looked at her and said, "Well, it is up to you, Queen Elsa." She nodded slowly.

"OK, so, I think I could read the letters first," Elsa started. She was confused of what to do first, as she had never handled this kind of situation before.

Kai pointed at the large pile of envelopes scattering everywhere. "Those are from all different kingdoms. They might expect you to write back to them, so if you need ink and a quill, it's on your desk, your Majesty."

Elsa blinked at how much letters there are. She thanked Kai for telling her, and dismissed him.

Kai left. Elsa looked back at the pile of letters and sighed. "First day of being queen and I already have so much to do."
