Draco's P.O.V
I woke up the next day to a terrible meowing, I went downstairs to find Leah the cat meowing bloody murder in the portrait.
"Hey, keep it down Leah, you'll wake the whole castle!" I whispered urgently to the cat, Emily was nowhere to be seen, so I had to quite her myself.
"I'm sorry but it's just so terrible to see her like this!!" The cat said in a squeaky voice. Holy shit, that cat can talk I thought shocked. Why am I surprised, after all this is Hogwarts? It makes sense actually, the portraits can talk why not the portrait animals? Deciding not to question it any further I focused back at the task at hand, quieting the cat.
"See who like what?" I asked softly in an attempt to call Leah down.
"EMILY!!" She exclaimed through sobbing "she has been really upset every since your arrival!!" She said equally as loud.
"Why?" I asked. I don't understand why Emily would be upset, after all I had barely talked to her and I hadn't even stayed at the tower for more than half a night. So why would she be upset? Leah calmed herself down and then began to speak once more.
"Listen, I'm not sure if Emily wants you to know this but I am going to tell you anyway, so you have to keep quiet about it, do you understand?" She said and I nodded, eager to hear what the little kitten had to say.
"Okay, so when Emily was a student here she was picked on relentlessly because she had a disability, she was color blind. Which made her extremely bad at potions, but she didn't give up, it was her favorite subject and she was actually quite good at it despite her disability. In her seventh year some Griffindors thought it would be funny to prank her by making her think she could see color again with a temporary potion. They slipped the potion in her drink, and because of her disability she didn't notice that her drink had changed color. Sadly they had brewed the potion wrong and ended up killing her." Leah said looking disgusted.
I was shell shocked, what a terrible thing to happen to someone. It was then that I came to a sickening realization, I had her room. It was black and white because she couldn't see anything else and the potions lab in my room was the same as the one in her picture. This realization made me suddenly feel sick and I instantly grabbed my stomach in an attempt to soothe the nausea.
"She is upset because she sees many similarities between you and her. She is worried about people trying to hurt you because of the way you look. I know it sounds strange but, you must be vigilant, Emily has always had a knack for predictions." Leah said exasperated. Something about her words made my heart soar, to know that someone actually cared about me, even if she was a portrait.
"I promise I won't let them hurt me." I said with new determination in place of nausea, even though I wasn't sure who would try to hurt me. Leah shot me a heartfelt smile and curled up on Emily's chair, seemingly pleased with my proclamation. With her settled I went back to my room, I checked the time and found that it was almost morning, so I decided to get ready for class. I had double potions first, then care of magical creatures and finally charms. I got dressed, pulled my cloak over my clothes and decided to head to breakfast early. When I got to the Great Hall I was shocked to find that someone was already there.
Harry's P.O.V
I awoke to an obnoxious meowing coming from outside. However it stopped as soon as it had started, I tried to return to sleep but it was too hard, besides I had been having terrible nightmares since the war so there was really no point. So I got up to get ready early, yesterday had been very tiring, I had been swarmed by fans throughout the entire night. Meaning I didn't have a chance to search for the mysterious figure. Whoever they were I wanted to help them, I know what it is like to be scarred.
I lumbered down to the Great Hall with my raven hair sticking out in every direction possible. I made it to my way to the Griffindor table and found that I was the first to arrive, which was a huge relief, I was in desperate need for some quiet, I got some toast and eggs and began to eat in comfortable silence until I heard the door creak open. I looked up to see the cloaked figure from before step into the hall. They stopped dead in their tracks when they saw me and turned around to leave.
"WAIT!! Please I just want to help you!" I called in desperation, I couldn't lose him again. The figure paused and stood still for a moment before turning on their heel and stalking back towards me before plopping down next to me.
"I have a feeling you aren't going to leave me alone, are you?" The figure asked in a vaguely familiar voice that I couldn't quite put a name to.
"Nope!" I said grinning like an idiot, finally I could help this person. I don't want them to suffer the way that I have, with PTSD and nightmares I have come to know quite well the terrible feeling of emptiness and loneliness.
