Chapter 13

Justin: I'm heading over.

I replied "Okay" and shut my phone off. I got off my couch and headed up to my room to put on pants. I walked back downstairs and sat at my dining room table scrolling on Instagram, waiting for Justin to come. I heard a knock on my door and slowly walked to it. 

"Alex," Justin said when I opened the door. He had a box in his hands. "What is that?" I asked motioning towards the box. "Is your dad home?" I gave him a look. "When is he ever home?" Justin laughed. "Can I come in?" I nodded moving to the side, giving him room to pass. We walked to the kitchen, and Justin sat the box on the kitchen counter. He took the lid off the box showing a bunch of cassette tapes. "Do you have anything to play these?" I shrugged my shoulders. "My dad might."

I ran upstairs and headed to my dads room to look for a boom box. I went to his closet and found it all the way in the back. I got it out and headed back downstairs to the kitchen where Justin was waiting for me. "Why do you have these?" I asked. The only person I know that even still has cassettes are Tony, but why would Justin have a bunch of them?"

Justin gave me a reassuring smile and put in a tape. "It'll be okay." Seconds later I heard a familiar voice. A voice I never thought I would ever hear. "Hey, it's Hannah. Hannah Baker. That's right, don't adjust your, whatever it is you're listening to this on. It's me live and in stereo." I started to tear up, not believing it's her. Justin walked over and wrapped him arms around from behind. "Get a snack settle in." I pressed pause and turned around to face Justin. "What is this?" I asked. "They were delivered to my house not long after she.. You know. They've been sitting in my room until I decided to listen to them yesterday. That's why I bailed on coming over. I had to finish them.

I shook my head in disbelief. I was so upset and mad at him, at least he had a good reason to. "I can't listen to this." Justin kissed me. "Alex, you need too. I'll be here the whole time." I nodded my head. "Okay." I pressed play.

"Because I'm about to tell you the story of my life. Well more specifically, why my life ended."
