...Mark slowly walked along the cold, dark tunnel. His breathing was shallow, he could feel his hands become clammy as he tried to maintain a tight grip on his lantern. He reached the first cross road. Mark had played this game enough times to know it didn't matter which way he went, it would all change in an instant anyway.
He walked for what seemed like hours with no sign of the engine or boiler room; this coupled with the fact there had been no sign of the mole monster made Mark get more and more nervous.
He reached yet another cross roads. This time he turned right, something could be seen in the distance. Mark couldn't work out if it was the creature or one of the rooms he so craved to reach. He took small silent steps towards the unknown.
It wasn't what he wanted. In front of him in the dark stood a creature that plagued him still after all this time. Mark put his hand over his mouth and tried to make as little noise of possible, he turned round and started to walk back the way he came, he felt it's presence behind him. The pipe next to Mark burst and Mark let out a small whelp. Mark froze and closed his eyes. Not daring to turn around. A noise rang through Marks ears, he became dizzy and heard the oh to familiar footsteps charging up behind him. Mark had to run. He tried the best he could to get away, the dizziness was making it nearly impossible to him to stay in a straight line 'just get around the corner. Just get away!' Mark thought. He made a right hand turn, falling into the wall as he did. His vision was getting better but the ringing was still deafening. He got to the end. Silence. He looked around and saw he was in one of the rooms. He wasn't sure which. He couldn't concentrate.
He looked around and found glow sticks on the floor. 'Right, just the keys left' he thought.
The dizziness became more and more frequent. That's when a thought passed over him. He only had a certain amount of time before this place took over your mind and you died. Mark didn't want to know what would happen if he got to that stage. 'Just find the engine room' Marks pace quickened. He breath got shorter, and quicker. He kept getting more and more light headed; but he pushed through. He kept thinking about everyone who was relying on him. He couldn't let them down.
He finally saw the engine room at the end of a long corridor. He looked around and picked the keys up off the floor. The dizziness and ringing were becoming more and more persistent. His brain was quickly turning against him.
He started to run. He didn't care if the creature heard him, he just wanted to get out. He ran, quickly turning left, right, left , right, left, then the ringing came. It had heard him. He continued to run, the dark damp walls slowly started to close in on him. He felt like he was about to be crushed. But he saw an opening in the wall, he dived in just as the monster passed. Mark dared not look back. It was now a constant ringing in his ears. He could not hear his thoughts.
He crawled through the dark narrow tunnel, he reached the end and looked out. There was nothing there but he didn't trust it. He turned right and started to run again. Just like that, he heard the footsteps behind him. For the first time he looked back and saw what was chasing him. Tears rolled down his face 'LET ME OUT!' Mark screamed. 'LET IT STOP! DARK. PLEASE?' He turned a corner and to his delight he saw a gate. A wave of euphoria cascaded over him. He used up the last bit of energy he had to sprint for it.
He fumbled for the keys in his pocket. The ringing droning on and on his his head, the gate constantly spinning. He could heard the creature closing in on him. He managed to get the keys out of his pocket, but his hands were too clammy. He dropped them. They fell through the other side of the gate.
'FUCK. NO. NO! PLEASE!' Mark jumped down and pushed his arm through the bars. His fingers brushing against the ring on which the keys were hooked. He shot a glance behind and saw it. It was coming for him. Mark had no choice. Get the keys or be caught. Mark thrust his shoulder against the bars and let out a scream as the metal bounced off him bone. He got them.
He jumped up. He stopped for a moment. Took a deep breath and concentrated on what he was doing. He put the key in the lock, the creature was now breathing on his neck. Mark went to turn the key.
Silence.
'You thought that was it? You won't get out that easy. I have to finish you. No matter what it takes. Let's see if 'the little piggy went home'
Mark opened his eyes. He was underwater. Where was he now? What was Dark doing? He started to swim as his lungs started screaming for air.
He never knew the answers. But he was determined to get out.
He had to.
For the fans.
No matter what, or who got in his way.
