Mark kept swimming up, his lungs burning with the lack of air. He burst through the surface and gasped, taking in as much air as he could to refill his tired lungs. He composed himself and took note of where he was, although the room was dark, Mark somehow felt a sense of recognition. He looked to his right and saw a set of stairs. He began to tread water as he fumbled his in pocket for anything he could possibly use as a light source. His teeth began to chatter with the cold, and his body was becoming tired.
He reached into his back pocket and found a camcorder. He opened it up, and looked at the flip out screen. Through the night vision he was able to get an idea of where he was. He scanned the room, praying there would be nothing lurking in the waters around him. He heard him before he saw.
The undeniable sound of chains. Marks hand began to shake. 'Oh god no! Where are you?' Mark started to move slowly through the water towards the stairs he saw a few moments earlier. He still couldn't see him. Marks hands were becoming numb and he was beginning to loose grip on the camera. He knew he needed to get out of the water quickly and get warm.
But moving quicker would draw it's attention. Mark was stuck. Then a reflection. Two white eyes glowing a few feet away from him. Mark looked at the stairs then back at the big guy. He knew usually he would be able to out run him. But he was considerably weaker than usual, both mentally and physically. Mark started at the giant man, and made his decision. 'Don't look back' Mark whispered to himself. And with that Mark swam for his life. He heard the familiar loud grunt. It was drawing nearer an nearer. Marks body was giving up on him. 'You can't fight in Outlast. I have to reach the stairs' Mark thought. Mark just made the base of the steps, he let out a sigh of relief.
A giant hand grabbed Mark by the back of the neck and hurled him underneath the water. Mark fought and grappled with it. Oxygen bubbled quickly ascended to the surface. Mark floated in and out of conciseness. But he didn't give up. Even had the last burst of air parted his lips.
Marks body floated up to the surface.
'Just two lives left' He said with a smirk.
'You're going to have to do better than that'
Marks eyes opened, he couldn't breath. He was floating face down. He lifted his head a drew breath. He was just feet away from the steps he so nearly reached last time. He frantically swam and splashed his way over. He managed to reach them, and climbed to the top. He leaned against the wall, and started to compose himself. He pushed himself off and walked on.
He opened his camcoder back up, he scanned around. The room was clear. Ahead of him was a corridor. He tried all the doors, but only one was unlocked. His hands shaking he reached for the doorknob. He had no idea what was on the otherside of this door. But he knew one thing for certain, it wasn't going to be pleasant.
'Open it.' said the voice in the sky
Mark did as he was told. He stepped through into the unknown and was consumed by darkness.
'welcome to the last chapter. You're so close; but the hardest test is still to come. One step away from defeating me. Tantalising isn't it.'
Silence fell. He was alone. At least he thought he was...
