Newt lay splayed out on a bed filled up with drugs when they arrived, so he was quite out of it. Upon arrival they'd taken him for tests and made him take some more pills before he realised what was going on and would resist again. They asked him a lot of questions, and now a diagnosis to explain what happened was on its way for his 'parents'' arrival.
As soon as Charlotte saw him, she exclaimed his name and ran to the bed, pulling him up into a tight hug that he took a couple moments to return, registering what was going on. He'd been lying there motionless for about half an hour, so movement seemed very sudden and fast for him. Scary, but he was too drugged to notice.
Alfie rubbed his back which again took him a few moments before he tensed up at the touch. They pulled away when he started making uncomfortable noises and fidgeted with his fingers. "Oh Newt, we shouldn't have let Charlie take you, we're so sorry." Charlotte apologised, putting a hand on his shoulder but he flinched away. "How are you feeling? What happened?"
His fidgeting grew more intense, not saying anything for a couple moments. "Ask Adam."
"We want to ask you, hear your side of things."
"Ask Adam." He repeated, a man walking in who introduced himself as Adam.
He took the two of them out and left Newt in his room, offered to come with them but Adam told them he wasn't allowed to leave his room yet. He'd be moved to a new one soon anyway, he was just in a 'newcomers' room.
The three sat down in an office, Adam going to his desk and picking up a clipboard, flicking through until he found Newt's information. "Right. Well, thank you two for coming. We've taken a few tests and while we think physically Newt seems fine except for a bang to the head, he's got acute stress disorder. It's treatable, which is what we're doing, but it's going to take a few days and we don't know if something might have triggered it rather than simply being from in the rain." Adam said, writing a couple things down.
"Newt didn't tell us what happened; what do you mean being in the rain? He just told us to ask you."
"That'll be the medication talking. We don't know if what he's said is true, we need to ask him again when the drugs wear off and when he's in the mood for talking. From what he did tell us though on the way here; as an initiation for his foster home the children pushed him outside into the storm and said he had to stay there until the next morning, the storm was just tough luck.
"He then ran around looking for shelter but was hit by something, and he woke up in a park when the wind was full speed. There he stayed because he couldn't get up and it broke him down; the paramedics told me that he was screaming at them and trying to be rather violent. Was he violent with you? He mentioned living with you but didn't elaborate too much on it."
"Not at all!" Charlotte cried, distressed. "He's had a few breakdowns and cried, but he's never been violent in the slightest. He was abused as a child-"
"Ah." Adam interrupted, turning to his computer. "And how was he after it?"
"For a little while he kept trying to run away, he isolated himself from everyone and wasn't particularly chatty. Bit of a loss of appetite but we were able to turn him around pretty quickly. It's because they threw him out by hitting him with a hammer and dumped on the pavement. My husband found him on his way back from work. He's never told us much more,we only know snippets from when he had to go to court against them."
"Right.. Well, in that case I might have a clue to why he reacted this way. I can't be sure yet, we'll have to ask him a few things. I think he may have some form of post traumatic stress disorder, but because it's gone undiagnosed for so long, it's built up and up inside him and without treatment, he's simply snapped. He should've been treated the day he came to you."
