Chapter Four
It was foggy and I believe I was in a park. I could see a few trees and steps in front of me. The fog began to clear slowly in front of me so I could see where I was going. Every step closer led me to a enclosed gazebo in the middle of the park. I tripped on the way up the stairs and when I regained stance I saw a blonde woman sitting on the other side of the gazebo. She was crying. I walked towards her and sat next to her.
"What's wrong?" I asked politely.
She looked up at me confused and answered, "He is coming for me. Who are you? You aren't suppose to be here. You weren't here before."
The woman stood up and walked away into the fog. I began to chase her through the fog and as expected I was lost and so was she. The fog was growing thicker and I didn't know where I was running to but it didn't seem to matter. I stood still for a brief moment to hear her scream. I didn't know what to do since I couldn't see her. I just needed to help her.
"Where are you?!" I yelled out for her, "Listen to me, everything is going to be okay. This is your mind you are in control of what happens here!"
I stood in silence as the fog began to clear away and then I saw her sitting on the ground. I ran towards her and fell to my knees to tend to her. She looked up at me and said, "How did you do that?"
"I didn't, it was you. You control what happens here. You don't have to lose," I explained.
She sighed and her eyes filled up with fright as she pointed at a man coming towards her in the darkness. I picked her up and we began to run out of the park. She was grabbing my hand so tightly I almost felt her fear. I stopped in the middle of a road and saw some street signs leading to a town a couple miles from where we were standing. I turned to her and asked, "Do you know where this leads? Cause we need to keep moving. Do you think you can make it?"
She nodded and we began to run down the road. It looked as though we were in the middle of a field area. We continued to move and we reached the second street sign with a mile to go. Suddenly, a light kicked on behind us and she began screaming again. I placed my hand on her cheek and made eye contact with her.
"It's not there if you don't want it to be," I said with confidence. The whole concept was frightening but it was true.
She turned away from the light and began running with me up the road. We were getting closer to the town and further away from the park. The lights were moving faster than us and soon it caught up to us. I dove towards the woman and we rolled into the fields as the light passed us. I pushed my weight off of her and grabbed her hand again. We began running through the fields hoping it would shield us from the light and act as a shortcut to the town. The light was now in front of us waiting for us to come out of the field. We arrived on the other side of the field and the light was shortly behind us and I could see the town buildings in the distance. We began making a run for it and just as we reached the sign welcoming us to the town, I looked back at the light that had disappeared at the last minute. I looked at the woman and we began walking into this abandoned town. It was dead and there were no people in sight. The places were closed up and there wasn't a car in the street.
"Do you know this place?" I asked her as she began walking ahead of me.
"I do, this is where he lives. We can't stay long. He will find us here," she said with tears in her eyes.
I approached her and wiped the tear from her cheek and replied, "I am here to make sure that doesn't happen. I'm Evan. What's your name?"
"Natalie," she answered with a half smile, "Where are we going?"
