Chapter Eight

I blinked my eyes rapidly and adjusted my hands on a cold metal table forcing myself to sit up. I appeared to be in a holding room at the government facility in Cedar Valley. I stood up and walked to the window and looked into it and turned back and walked to sit back down. I knew rooms like this very well and I imagined there was someone on the other side of the glass waiting for me to come to.

As I suspected, in walked Agent Marshall. He had a smirk on his face a person would want to remove with one forceful hand motion. I dropped my eyes to my feet as he slammed a file on the metal table and perched himself on the metal table.

"Mr. Evan Parker, December 31st, 2002. Just turned eighteen goes to Drop Harbor Memorial High School, been in four foster homes before moving to Drop Harbor and setting up shop with Mrs. Newberg and her daughter. Both whom have which been found murdered here recently. Your thoughts?" he thoroughly pointed out.

I lifted my eyelids up from the floor and stared at him for a few seconds. My stare went from a glare to an analyzing confusion. What was with the history lesson on my life when all he wanted was the formula and the research?

"Why don't you just skip my file recap and go straight to the point. I know what you're after and you can't have it," I explained leaning back in my chair, "And even if you could get it, it wouldn't be from me. I don't have any of the data you need and I am the only one who knows where it is. So...you need me."

I rose my lips to a half smile and raised an eyebrow. He glared at me and leaned over the table to get a better look into my eyes to find truth in my explanation. As soon as he saw there was no lies, he backed away and turned to the window and was buzzed out by another agent. Before he walked out, he took one last look at me that lasted a good slow minute as he remained focused on me while closing the door.

I sighed as soon as I heard the door click and began looking for a way to sneak out. They had taken everything from me so there was no way to contact Car or Asha. I was so grateful I had the idea to toss the manila envelope at Car before I was brought in. I stood up and began pacing in the holding room.

The seconds went by slowly on the clock. Seconds turned into minutes then hours. I was getting impatient with worry and then, Agent Marshall came back in. I looked at what he was holding and he placed the glass on the table.

"What is that? Poison?" I questioned approaching the table to grab it.

"Please Mr. Parker. I have no intention of killing you right now. If I wanted you dead, you wouldn't be here. It's a glass of water. I thought you might be thirsty," he responded with a nod.

I gave him a quick look as I looked into the glass and placed it back on the table. I knocked the glass over towards his suit as he stepped back a little bit and shook his shoe to slide the droplets of water off.

"Good cop doesn't suit you Agent Marshall, better fix that," I stated humorously.

Again, his eyes fixed on me with a glare and as he stepped around the table, the government facility alarms were triggered. Agent Marshall turned around and listened to his communication device. From the sound of his device, intruders were breaking into the facility. I nodded with content and Agent Marshall looked back at me. He noticed my face was sure that my friends were busting in and he walked out the door. In a split second, I slid over to the door and trapped my foot in it before it could close. I stood up and walked out scanning the halls as agents were being deployed to the front gates. I continued to duck behind corners and hallways waiting for all the guards to pass. Just to see the layout, I found the main security office to see what was going on the cameras. Just as I hoped, Car was causing a distraction as usual. But I needed to find the quickest way out and the safest way to get Car and Asha out.
