10.
It was the last week of September and Angelina had once again asked me to keep her company for a small while, which I didn't mind because I hadn't seen her for what seemed like a long time. We were shopping again, this time she was searching for objects in the home department, wanting to surprise Beatrix with a new vase or crystal glass bowl. I thought this was a lovely gesture so I had no problem lending my hand. We eventually came across a marble-like vase with gold edges that would look perfect in the flat's living area."How about that one?" I ask, pointing to it and her eyes light up when she sees it.
"Yeah, that's perfect." She wastes no more time dawdling, instead snatching the vase up and stepping straight to the checkout. I followed her like a lost puppy, wondering whether I would ever have a job during my time in New York. I was beginning to feel bad for Harry, he had offered everything he owned to me and I couldn't even contribute back to him with anything.
"We should go get coffee." Angelina suggests, taking the bag from the cashier and walking out. Before she did, she reaches into her pocket and places her shades back over her eyes. I had asked her why she was wearing sunglasses on such a cloudy day but she said it was: a, because she wanted to look cool, and b, because she had no make-up on her eyes after having woken up merely an hour ago. We found a coffee shop nearby and wasted two hours of our day away inside of it.
We ended up stopping in the street once the sky had become darker, a purple shade developing into a darker blue. I looked around and immediately recognised the place, I couldn't miss the bus shelter as well as the bench and street lamp.
"Hey, Winona, this is the place we first met." Angelina states, strolling over to the bench. She sat where she had on that night and I sit in my original space beside her. Her hands instinctively take a fresh cigarette packet from her pocket, lighting two cigarettes without asking and handing one to me.
"Wow." I breathe out, facing the main road and having a mixing pot of emotions form in the pit of my stomach. I take a drag of the cigarette between my fingers.
"I can't believe that was in July, that was two months ago." She says, also looking at the road. "Time flies, eh?"
"It certainly does."
"That night was the beginning of an era, the Winona and Harry era." She joked and I gently padded her arm.
"Oh, shush."
"There'll be little miniature Harry's running around here soon."
"Angelina!" I almost shout.
"I'm kidding, I'm kidding. You're both safe and using protection, I assume."
"We haven't even had sex." I reveal and her eyes widen.
"Wait, you haven't?" She asks, I shake my head in reply. "Wow, he must really want it to be perfect. He wasn't like this with... No, I'm sure you don't want to hear about it."
"No, go on. I don't mind."
"Well, he had sex with his last girlfriend, Cassie Lockhart her name was, only a week after first meeting each other. They didn't work out well in the end, she slapped him during an argument and left. They only had the relationship going for four weeks, but we didn't think it was real love."
"How do you even know that?"I ask, trying to ignore the spark of jealousy I felt.
"I know everything about Harry. I've known him since he first got here from England, I never knew why he came here though, he only ever said that he was looking for work." She says and I suddenly feel like I was one-up from everybody else by knowing his true back story.
