Chapter 1:- Wide Awake
I woke up to the sound of my alarm playing "Wide Awake" by Katy Perry roaring violently throughout my room. Mondays are definitely the worst days in the week, I thought to myself as I bashed the buttons on the alarm to dismiss it. Why in the world do I have that song as my alarm tone?
No, no I am not awake. I am most definitely not awake!
I groaned inwardly before standing up and stretching, rubbing my sore eyelids. I stumbled towards my closet and grabbed my clothes which I absentmindedly picked out before dashing to the bathroom.
Finishing other bathroom deeds and a quick shower, I left the bathroom to enter my room. I placed my outfit onto the bed and started to search for my hair blower. When I finished with the hair blower, I switched it off and placed it back where it's original place was, only to be interrupted.
"Melissa! Get your ass downstairs you useless piece of meat! Do you hear me?! I want you down here in 10 seconds!" my dad's voice boomed from the bottom of the stairs.
"Yees dad! I'm coming!" I moaned, attiring myself with the clothes I picked out to wear for today.
"Hurry up Melissa, I shouldn't have to repeatedly tell you to get down here quicker! You are 17 years old and should be responsible enough to manage yourself! I'm going to start counting Melissa, hurry up!" dad yelled back, annoyance evident in his tone.
"Sorry dad." I quietly yelled back. Hmm, maybe if you stop lecturing me then I might listen! Idiot.
My outfit showed that I was not trying too much but it's decent. The outfit consisted of; a pair of navy coloured leggings, a dark jeans jacket, a white blouse and brown wedgies.
It's school, so what's there to impress?
Additionally, my hair was sticking out everywhere due to the hair blower so I tied my blonde locks up into a loose, sloppy bun, allowing a few strands to escape. Adding on the few pieces of jewellery I owned which were: a pair of earrings, bangles and a necklace that had 'M' engraved onto it, I walked over to my long body mirror and started to inspect myself.
Finally after a few moments or so, in satisfaction with my outfit, I darted down the stairs and entered the kitchen, taking a seat.
"And... zero. Good, your here. Why don't you ever listen to me Melissa?! Goddammit woman! Next time, set an alarm and wake up! Or I will not hesitate to... show you the consequences of not listening to me." his stone-cold face was stern and still, not a single drop of happiness was shown, his arms were placed across his chest as he glared into my eyes.
"Okay, okay, I'm sorry. I'll wake up earlier!" I fidgeted in the seat as his eyes glare deeper into my eyes.
How could someone with such liveliness and happiness in his life before turn into something this... this... rotten? I honestly believe that my mother's death has caused dad to turn depressed and strict. It's as if all the happiness from before has just been drained until there's none left...
"You better! Anyways, I want you to leave the house straight after this or else you'll be late for school, no buts, no ifs and no breakfast. That's final. Oh, and you better turn up to your job, whether you like it or not, or else there will be serious consequences and I mean it."
"Y-yes dad." I stuttered, facing away from his face, biting my lip down.
"Right, well, I'm not going to drop you off because I don't want you to arrive late at school, so you can walk to school." He gestured his hands towards the door, signaling for me to leave.
