I stood at the edge of my pack border, teetering on making the move which I knew would lead to at least a lot of pain for me. I mean, this is James we're talking about. I murdered a circle of his best and most trusted fighters right in front of his entire pack under the guise of someone lesser than an Alpha. I wounded his pride and his ego, and as an Alpha male, he just couldn't have that, so he'll be sure to torture me in front of his entire pack, making a point of his strength.
So basically life is going to hurt like a bitch because that's what I'm signing up for.
I eyed the treeline in front of me that marked the border between James and I's packs, the very fine line between safety and near-certain death. Sure, maybe Jamie was pretty accurate earlier about the whole dangerous part of this plan, but I just couldn't sit around doing nothing, waiting for the two of them to strike.
I have to provoke them and make the first move without them knowing that this is me making the first move, or else I'm a goner for sure.
Instead of thinking about all of the very painful ways that Jeremy and James could kill me teamed up together (including one where they literally rip my body in half), I focused on the end goal, the entire reason that I was even here preparing to do this in the first place; defending my pack and its honor.
Taking a step forward, and then another one and another one, I found myself inching silently through James' territory, wondering why it was taking so long for any border patrol to stumble upon me and take me in to him. Unless, of course, he already knew I was coming.
But I couldn't think like that, so I tried to pretend that I just caught them at a shift change, despite the high unlikeliness of that.
Luck, however, seemed to be on my side as a medium-sized light brown wolf zipped up to and around me, circling me and causing me to stop in my tracks, keeping my eyes trained on the speeding ball of fur. Finally, it stopped and shifted. The dirty blonde girl in front of me folded her arms over her chest but did nothing to hide her nudity, "Who are you and what are you doing on our territory?"
Her tone was rude and nasty, and it took everything in me not to rip her heart from her chest just standing here. I gave her a sickly sweet smile, "I am Alpha Chandler. I'm here to see James."
She stiffened a little at that, clearly sniffing the air for my alpha blood, a nonverbal question to which she received an answer as my smell gave it to her. I was a powerful Alpha, and she only knew that by smelling the anger and strength radiating off of me in waves. I was pissed, and that didn't help cover up the stench of who I am.
The girl focused her eyes back on me, clearly she had been communicating through the pack link, "Alpha James says you were not expected and that you are not welcome."
"Then give him a message for me," I stated, and she furrowed her brows, looking a little more nervous than he confident facade from before. "Tell him I said there is no peace. No cease fire. We're ending this-- today."
She nodded, her eyes glazing over as she relayed what I had said. Then, as soon as she came back to, I slammed my hand into her face, raking my claws down the side of her face. She yelled in surprise and pain, stepping back away from me, but it was too late. I was already pouncing, ripping her throat from her neck and tossing it aside. I continued to walk deeper through the woods, relying on my wolf's sense of direction and smell to take me back to the pack house that I had visited once before to save Jamie and two more of my men.
I encountered two more wolves on my way, and I dealt with each of them the same way I had done with the girl; by knocking them down hard and then ripping their throats out. It was fast, easy, effective and showed them clearly that I had no respect for their lives or honor.
These killings were an act of disrespect, one that James would be more than happy to kill for, which is exactly what I wanted.
Finally, I reached the backyard of the house I had only visited once before, and once again, I will only see the outside of it. It's a shame really, it seems like the inside of this house would be lovely.
When I walked across the grass, James was already standing there, seething. I could feel his anger from across the large green space. It was so strong, it could have almost knocked me over had I been an ordinary weak wolf. But I am not weak and am nowhere near ordinary. So I continued forward with purposeful strides, making my way over to the very pissed off Alpha.
He growled once I neared him, "I'm going to kill you, you fucking bitch."
"Is that so?" I mused, only egging him on further. His eye began to twitch in anger and I could tell it was taking nearly every ounce of strength he had not to lunge for me and tear out my throat like I had just done to three of his pack members. He growled in response, his hands clenched into fists so tightly that I doubted there was any blood flowing about them because of how white his knuckles were.
James spoke through his teeth, "Yes, I am."
I smirked at him, pushing any last second doubts about this plan to the furthest depths of my mind, and shrugged, "Well then by all means, come and get me."
He didn't wait another second before lunging at me, shifting into his large wolf as he did so. Here goes nothing.
