Chapter 5: Rushing Water

Lieutenant Richard turned around and took the lead while Martin

and Marvin followed. The sky was getting darker with clouds as the

air seemed to fill with a feeling of uneasiness, Lieutenant Richard

postulated that it would rain soon, possibly aiding in the destruction of

the dam.

"Come on you two, don't dawdle, especially you Martin. This whole

idea was yours, so you have to make sure it all goes as planned."

"Yeah, I got it Lieutenant." Martin than picked up his pace. The

group continued for a while until a torrential rain started to pour. The

storm obscured their vision, yet Lieutenant Richard who wanted this

mission over as soon as possible refused to stop.

"Lieutenant with all due respect, shouldn't we wait out this storm?

We can barely see in front of our own noses, and someone may get

hurt."

"Now Marvin, we need to finish this mission as soon as we

possibly can, so that the people of our village have water to drink. If

we wait too long then there may be unforeseen consequences." As the

Lieutenant said this, he slipped on an exposed rock that was made

slippery by the rain.

"Are you ok sir?" Marvin asked the Lieutenant as he picked himself

off the ground.

"Yes Marvin, and before you ask no this does not prove anything."

Lieutenant Richard replied annoyed.

"But Sir, if we cannot"

Lieutenant Richard cut Marvin off "We will not stop until the

mission is over with, do you understand?"

"Yes sir" Marvin replied defeated. The three continued on their

way to destroy the dam. After a while they arrived at Jack's dam.

They snuck up to the dam, around the sleeping soldiers who were

supposed to be guarding the bridge.

"Martin and Marvin, you two bring this dynamite to the dam,

light it and then beat it like there's no tomorrow."

"Yes sir."

"Alright" the two of them did as instructed and lit the dynamite

just before throwing it into the middle of the dam. They didn't

immediately run however, as Martin stayed to see the dam explode.

Within the next thirty seconds the dynamite violently exploded

destroying the relatively weak wooden dam. As soon as Martin was

satisfied they attempted to leave, however the explosion woke up the

soldiers and someone spotted them. Luckily the terrifying soldiers really

were just a façade as most of the soldiers could barely load a gun let

alone fight, although one of them got lucky as the Lieutenant slipped on

the loosened dirt and mud leaving him temporarily vulnerable to be shot.

The next thing he knew he was shot in the right eye.

"My eye" The Lieutenant cried out in agony before falling and

grabbing his eye. Both Marvin and Martin promptly aided the Lieutenant

to his feet and helped him bandage his wound. After a couple hours of

fending off the soldiers from Jack's village, the three of them finally

made it back to the village exhausted. They then proceeded to bring the

Lieutenant to their village's Doctor, Dr. Jacob Johnson.

"Hey doc" Martin said to get the attention of Dr. Johnson.

"Hey Martin... whoa what happened to Richard?!"

"He got shot on our way back to the Village."

"Oh no, quick get him on this bed so I can examine him." The two

of them did as they are told before wishing Dr. Johnson good luck and

heading to their own huts.

"Man, that was close."

"You can say that again Martin, I'm just glad we got out of

there."

"Yeah, I know, if only I had moved faster, then we could have

gotten away without being seen."

"Same here, you know Marvin you were right."

"About?"

"We aren't as experienced as Lieutenant Richard, had I just let him

make the plan with Frank then this wouldn't have happened. We would be

asleep right now, and the Lieutenant wouldn't have been shot."

"It wasn't your fault, the Lieutenant wanted to finish the

mission so quickly that he didn't make safety his number one priority.

His own short sightedness in that situation is what caused him to end

up in this situation, and at least for now we have water again."

"Yeah, you're right. Well I'm going to go get some shut eye, good

night."

"Ok good night Martin." Having said this, the two of them return

to their huts to get some well-deserved rest.
