“You wished to see me?” “Yes,” he replied, “To discuss your role here.” I was immediately interested. My role? What does that mean? My rank, maybe? Or the things I’ll have to do? All of the questions swimming in my head made me lightheaded. “You will only have one person above you in command of the castle,” his eyes never moved from the fireplace. “You?” “Yes.” ‘I am the master of this castle.’ “Yes, sir,” I said graciously, giving a small curtsy as I turned to leave. “Belle?” I stopped short. This was the first time he’d said my name since the first time he’d heard it. “Yes, sir?” “Call me Isaiah.”
