There was a cat. Why the heck was there a cat in a shipment of Imperial Gold shields?

"What in Tartarus?!" I exclaimed. "What are you doing here? His almighty-highness Octavian ordered you all to be rounded up and sacrificed!" I then realised I was lecturing a cat and abruptly shut up.

I reached forwards to the lift the cat but it scampered away and began... Writing? Letters formed two names: Crater and, was that, Saddy? I only understood these names later. But it was then that it tipped its head to one side, as if it expected me to know what was going on. Eventually, it realised I didn't and... Did it just roll its eyes at me?

Without warning, it jumped up from the sawdust and ran to the top of the boat. I yelped and sprinted after it. At the top, I looked around; there it was, jumping into the Little Tiber. Before I realised what I was doing, I jumped in.

The cold brought me back to Camp Jupiter (and a sane mindset) and I remembered something: I couldn't swim. I paddled, slashing my hands about wildly, but I was going under. I spat out water, and then, as if my day wasn't strange enough, I blacked out and when I woke up again I found myself, soaking wet, lying down on the bank of the river.

Gasping and spluttering, I looked around for that (expleted deleted) cat that had almost killed me. No one had noticed my near-fatal experience. I didn't really expect them to. I was the new kid on the block. I had been on probatio for the last month, since I was found next to the highway and th service tunnel. It's a good job they found me before something else did.

Then, a few days after I was found, I was claimed by Vulcan. It baffles me as to why, but he presented me with goggles blessed by Trivia (aka Hecate) which show the Mist as magical residue. It also gave me the power to manipulate and fool mortals. Unfortunately, it did not seem to work on my legion homies. I tried it out, but instead of seeing a floating cake like they should have, they saw me smuggling a cake into my section of the cabin. They didn't tell me that though. They waited until I was asleep, and ate it all. Karen tells me it was delicious.

On top of this, the Camp was almost deserted. There was just a few Vulcan kids here, making more weaponry for the upcoming battle with the Greeks. Everyone else was at their camp, where they planned to ambush them when ordered by Reyna.

The glaring July sun suddenly entered an eclipse as the ginger cat entered my line of vision. I couldn't decide whether to strangle it for almost getting me killed, or worship it for saving me. It cocked its head to one side, almost questioning whether I was alright.

"It would be helpful if you actually spoke some English," I grunted, not expecting what happened next. Not expecting the cat to transform.

I watched, mesmerised, as it changed, revealing a tall girl with honey-coloured, sun soaked skin and jet-black hair standing on the pier. She had the same vivid green eyes as the cat and wore a t-shirt with a cat head on it (oh the irony), short shorts and leggings.

"Holy Hephaestus." I gasped.

"Don't be afraid!" She spoke softly and calmly. I was nearly expecting her to say that she was the Angel Gabriel and that I was going to have a son called Jesus. "My name is Emuishere. You must take me to the 21st Nome."
