•Chapter Twenty-Three•
"I'm sorry I could not return sooner, Brother. I was so afraid of what Lacrime might do to me if I even attempted to escape. He broke me, Jim..." George choked up. "He broke me."
"He can't hurt you anymore, George." said Jim, holding the younger Penderry in his arms. "I swear, I will be a better brother from now on."
"You are already a good brother, Jim." Westman said, feeling sorry for the poor boy Jim was embracing. "I'm sorry too, George. Had I not run away like a coward, then perhaps I could have prevented this from happening. None of this is your fault, do you understand? You are a victim in all of this just like we are, you have done absolutely nothing wrong."
"Thank you, Mr Westman." George said, giving Ollie a look as he hadn't had the chance to meet him yet. "Agustino told me about you too. Oliver, isn't it? Oliver Andrew Penderry?"
"That's right, though I usually prefer Ollie." Ollie said, shaking George's hand to which the adolescent did the same. "Sorry about what happened to you, George."
"I appreciate your sympathy, Ollie, but I do not wish for it." George clenched his fists. "All I want is to get justice for Lacrime's previous victims, and justice for what he did to my brother and Mr Westman. I know I am not the strongest person in the world, but I have my wyvern abilities to help me."
"Oh, is that right is it? Well, I don't think either of you will be needing to rely on your abilities any longer. You will all be six foot under by the time i'm finished here."
Lacrime clapped slowly as he appeared, laughing as he did so. Westman stood protectively in front of Blaire, and Jim did the same with Ollie and George.
"I'm surprised, honestly," said Lacrime, both hands behind his back. "Usually my subjects don't last any longer than a few weeks, a month or two if they're really pushing it. But all of you...especially all of you...you just won't give up, will you? You're all so determined to live, it's sad honestly."
Westman let his dark form take over, coal coloured veins covering his face and his eyes turning red and black. He hissed, fangs even sharper and deadlier than they ever had been before. "You expect us to give up? After everything you have put us all through you expect us to lose? Never. If there is one person who I will not lose to, it's you! I will never take the coward's way out!"
Lacrime smirked, insanity glistening in his eyes. "You wish to live a life free of sin? My, however, would something so simple be possible for a man like you, Alfred? You chased after me that fateful night, as did Jimmy here. Accept it, i've given you both so much power and you don't wish to give that up. You like being a vampire, somewhere deep down."
"Like? You think I like being a vampire!? I loathe it!" yelled Westman, infuriated that someone could even say such a thing. "I didn't ask to become this creature, it is you who made me this way!"
"Yes, and I must admit that I am proud of the work Joseph and Daniel have produced. It's just a shame that I no longer needed them after the deed was done, there was blood everywhere."
Westman felt himself go cold...Lacrime truly was a psychopath. "You...you killed them!?"
"Well what else was I supposed to do?" Lacrime said, innocently. "I had them both under my control, and when that control wore off they had no idea of what they had done until I told them. They were screaming in sorrow...so I made them scream in pain."
"You...you're disgusting!" George shouted, close to vomiting. "How could you!? Did you have no regard for them at all!? Did you not think about the possibility of them having loved ones!?"
