Summer is over. I sigh, and open my locker. I'm beginning to unpack, when I see Preston open a locker beside mine. I turn towards him.
"You're next to me?" I question. He turns, as if not recognizing me.
"Yeah..."
"Remember me? Not only do we go to the same school, but you saved my life three years ago... Ring a bell?" I try to make Preston remember.
"Oh..." He finishes putting his things in his locker, then breaks off to join the 'Populars'. What happened to the guy who risked his life for a stranger? I shake my head, and walk to my first class.
... (Time skip to Lunch)
After buying my lunch, I head towards an empty table. I begin to eat my sandwich, when a girl comes and sits next to me. I give her an awkward side-long glance.
"Oh! I'm sorry... did you not want me to sit here?" she asks, apologetically. I shake my head quickly.
"No, no! I just... who are you?"
"I'm Taylor. I saw you sitting here alone, and thought; well... we can be alone together..." she trails off, twirling one of her many bracelets around her wrist.
"I just realized how abrupt and awkward this was..." she nervously chuckles. I smile warmly at her.
"No, it's always nice to have some company. I'm Savannah."
"Hey, Sava-" Taylor is looking over my shoulder, blushing. I turn the direction of her gaze, and see Mat Nooch (A/N I don't remember Mat ever giving away his full name, so yeah xD) I grin mischievously.
"You like Mat?" her cheeks somehow grow brighter.
"Y-yes," she squeaks.
"You should go talk to him! I hear he's single right now," I wriggle my eyebrows, causing us both to laugh.
"He wouldn't want to date me," she murmurs sadly.
"What makes you think that?" I question.
"Well, he- I'm just..." she pauses. "I'm me."
"Nonsense! Mat could have a secret crush on you for all we know!" I persuade. I'm about to say more, when I notice Preston staring at me. My cheeks grow slightly red. Seeing this, Taylor takes her advantage.
"So... Preston?" she mocks.
"Yeah..." I begin, then realize what I was saying. "Wait, no! No!"
"Riiight!" Taylor sees past my small lie.
"He saved my life once. I saw him around school after that, but this year, he's changed. He's with the Populars," I sigh.
"Hmm... Maybe you could ask Rob what happened to him? He was Preston's old friend," Taylor offers.
"Where is he?" Taylor points towards an empty table with one guy sitting at it, picking at his food, seemingly lost in memories. I stand, and walk over to him. He looks up, and smiles.
"Hey," he says.
"Hi, I'm Savannah. Were you Preston's best friend?" I ask.
"Yeah... was," Rob answers.
