"Cassie?" I called as my lungs burned with every breath.
"Riker!" I heard her sob.

I stood up quickly and started running toward her voice. My legs throbbed and I fell halfway toward my destination. Every body part was filled with absolute pain. A constant coursing of fire through my aching body.
I spotted her lying helplessly beside the trunk of a fallen tree. I crawled to her and grabbed her hand.

"Oh, Cassie." I sobbed.
I felt the gentle squeeze of her small hand and I immediately relaxed. I had to get us out of here.
"Did you see where he went?" I asked her.
"No, but I know that he will be back soon. We have to hurry." She replied.
"I don't know if I can." I admitted.
"I believe in you. Come on, Riker. We have to hurry."

She forced herself up with an amount of courage and will power that I'd never understand. She had always been strong, and she had always been able to tough out anything. I wasn't afraid to admit that she was stronger than I could ever be.
She pulled me up quickly and took my hand. We ran as fast as we could toward the highway, each step feeling like the last.

"HEY!" I heard him scream.
We are going to die.

Cassie pulled me into a cave and covered my mouth. Complete silence and darkness. If we stayed in here, I would go crazy.
I heard his footsteps walk straight passed us.

"Dammit." He mumbled under his breath.

He left, but it was hours before we dared to move again.
Late that night, Cassie lit a small fire and started treating my wounds. The wet cloth stung, but it relieved me.

"How did you learn all of this?" I asked her.
"Experience." She answered flatly.
I let her continue her work, groaning every time she treated a new wound.
"I'm sorry, Riker. I know it hurts." She apologized.
"Where are we going to go?" I asked in between moans.
"I don't know yet, but I'll figure it out." She replied as she finished cleaning.
"I'm the guy here, shouldn't it be me making sure we are okay?" I joked.
"Riker, when you're running from dangerous people, it doesn't matter who takes charge."
"I guess you're right." I admitted.
