“Hey!” I looked up to see Matthews smiling face walking up to me, his dirty blonde hair swept across his face. “Hi!” I stood up form the park bench. It was now Friday night, and we had a plan. We both stood there smiling awkwardly for a second, before I pulled out my phone. “Ready?” I asked nervously. “Yup!! Don’t worry, this will be great.” Matthew reassured me, pulling out his phone as well.

I opened my messages and texted Marissa. “Does this look good?” Matthew asked, showing me his text to David. “Great!” I answered, sending the same text to Marissa.

“Ok we only have a couple minutes, how bout that tree over there?” He pointed to this perfect tree. It had about a 3-foot trunk and it was right in the middle of the park. It was one of those trees you could totally have a picnic underneath or climb up and build a tree house in.

“They’re coming!” The air slightly rushed from me as Matthew grabbed my hand and pulled me behind the tree. I slid my back down along the bark on the tree and sat down on the ground. Matthew did the same thing.

“Kali!! Kali where are you??” I heard Marissa’s frantic voice. At the same time, Matthew’s hone vibrated.

From David:

Where are you?? I’m here what’s wrong?”

I slapped my hand over my mouth, grinning. Matthew smiled and nodded.

‘This is so perfect!” He whispered.

“Marissa?” I could hear David’s voice. “David?? What are you doing here?”

Marissa asked him. “Matthew texted me.... something about an emergency in the park-“”And get here as quick as you can.” Marissa finished his sentence.

David started laughing. “Those little…” “I can’t believe they tricked us!!” Marissa exclaimed. “Oh Kali’s in so much trouble!!” “So is Matthew, believe me!” They agreed.

Matthew and I couldn’t hold it in anymore and burst into laughter behind the tree.

“Kali I can’t believe you!!” Marissa stood over me trying to look upset but you could tell she was happy. I walked with Marissa over to the park bench. I looked over my shoulder to see Matthew slap David on the back and David mouth ‘thanks’. I leaned over to Marissa and said, “I’m really not in trouble right??” Marissa smiled, “As much as I love you, you’ll still be punished. I’ll force you to double date with me.” She winked, causing me to burst into laughter again.

The four of us sat on a park bench laughing and making jokes, chasing each other around in the grass, and attempting to play that game were you do piggy back rides and knock each other of the other persons back. Matthew and I beat Marissa and David for sure in that one.

“Ok well as fun as this has been, and as much as I hate you too for tricking us, I think we’re gonna go.” David smiled, hitting me playfully in the shoulder. He turned to Marissa, “Starbucks?” he asked with a knowing smile. Oh Marissa, she’s such an addict.

Matthew and I left the park about 5 minutes after they did, but started walking in the other direction.

“I’ve never been down here!” I said, walking down a lamplight road. It was about 9’oclock in September, and it was a gorgeous night.

We walked along the road, pushing each other, laughing, and just getting to know each other.  I swear this guy! We both ended up in that mood were you’re like that happy kind of drunk (even though your not drunk) and you don’t want it to end. We stumbled into a small little roadside dinner, called “Rosie’s” and it was absolutely adorable. A little bell rang over the door, and we walked into a small 1950’s style diner.

“Hi guys, welcome to Rosie’s.” A cheery brunette in her upper 30’s smiled. “This is so cute!” I gushed, looking around at the red booths and checkered floors.

“Thanks! I only opened last year and it’s done pretty well.” The girl smiled. “I’m Jesy, by the way.” “So, why Rosie’s?” Matthew asked. “My grandmothers name was Rosie, and I felt like it kind of fit the theme.” Jesy answered, shrugging. “It’s cute,” I smiled, “can I have a vanilla malt?” “Sure.” She typed some things in too the cash register. “and can I have a chocolate one?” Matthew asked, sitting next to me on one of the barstools.

“You ready for classes to start?” Matthew asked as we sipped/ate our malts (I don’t even know how you’re supposed to do it).

“Kind of. Some of them I’m slightly more terrified about, especially like some of the science and math and stuff I’m not as good at.” I shrugged.

“Yeah same… I really don’t want to do math.” Matthew laughed.

The song Counting Stars by One Republic came on in the speaker in the dinner, and I may or may not have squealed and jumped up and danced around. I would have looked more stupid if Matthew hadn’t joined me. Needless to say, it was hilariously amazing.

After finishing our malts, and waving goodbye to Jesy, it was quarter to 11 and we headed back towards campus.  “Marissa?” I asked, opening the door to my room.

“I guess they’re still out.” Matthew said, looking around the empty room.

“Come on in. At least for a minute before I collapse into sleep” I laughed. He walked over to my guitar stand, running his hand over my guitar.

“So, if you’re a music major, what do you play or do?” He asked.

“Um I play guitar, piano,  I like mixing music and recording stuff, you know stuff like that.” I said nervously. “Cool! You should play or show me something sometime.” He smiled. “Ok, well I think I’m gonna go, but I had fun tonight and the whole cupid thing totally worked on them!” Matthew smiled, pulling me into one of those guy bear hugs. When the door closed behind him, I sunk on my bed sighing. I had had a great night, and I don’t think I felt that much like myself in a long time. It was like a whole different thrilling, happy person, and I loved it

Sorry guys, I know its more of a filler but oh well hope you liked it!!
