Eighteen campers.
Six weeks.
Two teams.
One grand prize.
Deep in the woods of New York lies a camp capable of making one of these teen's dreams come true, but who will survive the brutal tasks that lie ahead? Tests of endurance, tenacity, brains and brawn, all the while caught in webs of sabotage and team drama. So many applied, but so few were accepted based on random selection. In order to survive, these kids will need more than luck.
Clarisse LaRue, 16
"I'm going to win and I'll crush anyone who thinks otherwise."
Travis Stoll, 16
"I'm here to steal the heart of America, baby. A cash prize is just a bonus," he rocks on the back legs of his chair. "But, you know, like, one I'm definitely gonna get."
Connor Stoll, 15
"Honestly, I'm just gonna beat my brother, so."
Our contestants get a first look at their co-stars on this warm June morning as they board the bus to opportunity, shaking hands and not so secretly sizing up the competition for the next month and a half. Not a yawn in sight, everyone is excited to leave the city and get the adventure started. There is a fair share of talking and teasing and yelling, the cameras bobbing to catch all the action while avoiding getting slammed to the floor by an enthusiastic gesture or some flying projectile. Two girls whisper avidly, shooting sly glances at the boys across the aisle.
"It's easy," the brunette giggles. "No one will want to turn against someone they have a crush on."
"Makes sense," her seatmate waves daintily at the boy who catches their looks.
Drew Tanaka, 15
"It's not about making friends or lasting bonds, it's about allies," she shrugs unapologetically. "It's just basic game show logic."
Silena Beauregard, 16
"I didn't really have a plan past entering the competition, so I guess it wouldn't hurt to be friendly with everyone. You never know who you might meet."
The sun is bright through the windows, flashing over everyone's youthful faces. Adults might have cringed at the cracked leather seats or the weird sticky stuff smeared on the floor, but what kid doesn't know the in's and out's of a shaky school bus? Forget resting your head on the window for a quick nap, your brain will be shaken and stirred and blended right in your skull the whole way down Montauk Highway. That's why even though the Stoll brothers tore up paper and dropped pieces one by one into a sleeping kid's mouth as he curled up on the floor, they admit the brilliance of fitting snugly under the seats instead of trying to curl up on a chair.
"You're both idiots."
Travis pauses his flurry to raise an eyebrow at the girl. "You realize where you are?"
She crosses her arms right back, freckles extenuated as her nose scrunches. "A national tv show?"
"Summer camp, Katie!" he exclaims. "This is like, the best and only place to do stupid things."
"Well, we aren't there yet."
"Then you'll bring your A game?"
"Oh, you bet," she smirks, flippantly turning back to her seatmate.
