"Nice of you to drop in."
He struggled against the cables binding his hands, glaring balefully.
"I guess you wouldn't find that funny," she chuckled, pacing the catwalk above him. "But I thought it was clever."
"You think everything you say is clever."
"Because it is," she tapped the rail.
He rolled those pretty green eyes of his and ducked as a set of workers carried a support beam by his head. He had fallen right into her trap and she just had to stop by to gloat; so many heroes try to bust in and "save the day", but he was the hardest to catch. Because he was smarter, faster, and more powerful than the rest, she felt the proudest when she had him in her clutches.
Something crashed below and she frowned, turning a sharp eye to the operation at hand. Her head engineer waved a hand of assurance before yelling for clean up. The leaking blue liquid calmed her spiked ire; they had several cooling agents to spare, one dropped tube won't matter. If it had been a reactor, it would have been another matter entirely.
"What, no evil monologue?"
She raised her eyebrow, swiveling back to him. "Have you known me to monologue?"
"Just thought you'd be in the mood," he shrugged. "Ya know. Since your plan is nearly complete."
"Please, this isn't a comic book," she scoffed, slowly walking to the spiral staircase.
It's obvious he was stalling for time. His shoulders were too stiff and his expression too neutral. She knew his hands were working double time to loosen the cables and if his tensed thighs said anything, he was close to pouncing.
"Tell me, hero," she began her descent. "What do the police have you after me for? Illegal weaponry? Endangering human lives? Treason?"
"I don't work for the police."
She tilted her head. "All this time, you've been chasing me for fun?"
His bark of laughter brought a smirk to her face. "I wouldn't call this fun, would you?"
"Depends to which part you're referring."
"You know, if you weren't hellbent on destroying the world, I bet you'd be alright to hang out with."
"The whole world," she mused, hopping off the last step. "Now that's ambitious, don't you think?"
He just scowled.
She supposed it made sense; if he was the only one who made it that far, he would be the only one not working under the police. That left her to wonder why he hadn't offered up his information to the government yet, especially since he had been "visiting" for the past year. Anyone else would have certainly jumped at the chance to bring some big shot billionaire down.
"No," she looked him over. "Not the world, Jackson."
"You know my name but not that I didn't work for the police?" he arched a brow over his mask. "I expected more, Chase."
She pursed her lips, purposefully pacing in front of him. "Lucky for you, the same can't be said for yourself."
His lips quirked up, but she realized he wasn't acting the same. He looked...pale.
"Boss."
She held her arms behind her back, watching Percy from down her nose.
"We have a set back," Leo said through the ear piece. "Take off is delayed ten minutes or so."
