Eternal As You Are

Numbed by the coldness of the night,

I found myself in my own hands' embrace.

My tears made it hard to see the stars

As I estimate the vastness of the sky.

The stars are so far, yet they can be seen.

The moon in the night sky, man was able to reach.

Yet the distance of Heaven remains unknown.

It can be too far or too close, how do I know?

I don't understand, why's it so confusing?

Inexplicable longing is surging inside of me.

You said You're near, yet I feel You're too far.

I thought I had it figured where You truly are?

In a moment of silence,

I closed my teary eyes.

I put a hand on my chest

To feel every heartbeat

As I uttered a prayer.

Then I waited silently,

With great expectancy,

That I would hear You speak,

Hoping You'd answer instantly.

As always, You did not fail me.

You flashed in my head

The promises You've made.

And with that, I felt relieved,

Heart stilled, soul rejoicing.

My love for You shouldn't be

As temporary as feelings exist.

I must be confident that You are near

Even if I'm feeling the exact opposite.

For Your words are true and unchanging.

You said You won't leave, nor forsake, me.

You're by my side for me to walk with,

But, by Your Holy Spirit, You live in me.

I know all things are possible with You,

But there is one thing I know You can't do.

That is to end this friendship between us,

Because You've made it eternal as You are.
