it was a friday night, just after twilight so the sky was dark and filled with thousands of tiny stars. not that any of the hamilsquad could see them, though. or you, for that matter, you were all under the protection of your favourite pub's roof. the pub was warm from the fire place and filled with the cheers and chatters of the people who would often come in around the same time and enjoy a good, old ale. this was one of your favourite ways to spend a friday night, it was just so relaxed and all of the boys seemed so happy! it was your turn to get drinks now. you stood up with a smirk, the boys about to jump in and yell their orders until you silenced them.

"john, another pint of sam adams. lafayette, another barley wine. hercules, another old old ale. and last but not least, alex... a light bitter, i'm guessing?"

they all seemed genuinely impressed with how well you knew their orders. the proud looks on their faces were priceless and they filled you with happiness, knowing that they were proud of you made you oddly happy! you weren't sure why, but you weren't going to let your mind over think this one. you walked to the bar with pride, your hips swaying as you walked. knowing that the boys took pride in you filled you with determination and made you feel like you were worth something! you leaned over the side of the bar, recited the order and then paid the slightly sweaty man on the other side of the oak wood bar. while you were waiting for your drinks to fill up the tray, you felt a tap on the middle of your back. you turned around with a smile, thinking that it was one of the boys who wanted to add something to their order like some peanuts or chips – when you took in the face of none other than charles lee, it felt like the business end of a bayonet in your stomach over and over again. your blood ran cold and your throat tightened until you couldn't speak. his face screwed up in disgust.

"god, it really is you..." he hissed, his eyes trailing up and down your body. he rubbed his nose with the back of his index finger, a bad habit you noticed he had and once pointed out – he beat you for it. you opened your mouth, about to ask what he was doing here, but to no surprise, no noise at all came out. he gave a harsh, cold laugh. "you still look as awful as i remember. the only good thing about you was your lovely little ti-"

"excuse me?!" john cut him off, stepping in front of you so he was now between you and charles lee. you had told the boy about your abusive ex. clearly, none of them were happy that he had showed up here. he reeked of alcohol and most of his words were slurred, no surprise there.

"we're going to have to ask you to leave (y/n) alone." alex hissed at him. oh, charles certainly remembered hamilton... he fought alongside him a while back.

"you! you were the little shit that put us all in dan-"

"if you have something to say to my lovers, you can say it to me." mulligan took charge and stood in front of the four of you, taller than charles lee and clearly a lot stronger. he stood no chance in this fight, but lee had always seen himself a lot bigger than he was. he opened his mouth, about to throw more abuse, until the bartender came out and told them to break it up. lee was sent out and told to go sober up elsewhere, he wasn't getting served here. he then turned to you guys.

"look, lee won't be back. as much as i hate that shrimp's guts and i'd love to see him a pile of mush on the floor, i'd hardly call it a fair fight as he would be too drunk to even swing a proper punch. now here." he handed you back the money you gave him for the drinks. "they're on the house, okay? no more trouble in my pub. the tense atmosphere will drive customers away."

the boys nodded and turned to lead you back to your booth. however, laurens spun back around and jumped straight up, punching him in the face as hard as he could. lee fell over and howled in pain as his nose began to drip with blood.

"woops." he shrugged, taking your hand and leading you back to your seats. you were so greatful for boys like them.
