Paris, 1880

Marius' POV:

I sat in the parlor beside the fire, the light slowly dimming around me. It was the anniversary of my love's death and I felt in my heart I would be with her soon.

"Alone I wait in the shadows... I count the hours till I can Sleep... I had a dream Paigé stood by me, it made her weep... to know I die... alone at the end of my days... upon this wedding night I pray... Lord take me into thine embrace... and show me grace...

"God on high... Hear my prayer... Take me now... To thy care... Where you are... Let me be... Take me now... Take me there... Bring me home... Bring me home!"

I saw my Paigé walk towards me as if from the light. She was more radiant than ever and was dressed in a wedding gown and veil, my ring still on her finger. She held her hand out to me.

"My love, I bless you name.... My love lay down your burden... you've lived a life of truth... and you will be with God...

"Come to me... where chains will never bind you.... All your grief... at last, at last behind you... God in Heaven, look down on him in mercy..."

I sighed, tired by the years of life and pain.

"Forgive me all my tresspasses and take me... to your glory..."

I reached out and took Paigé's hand. I stood up and I was myself forty-eight years earlier at age 22 when I had married Paigé.

Paigé smiled and lead me out of the room and onto the streets of Paris but they were clean and empty.

"Come with me... I'll lead you to salvation... take my love... for love is everlasting..."

I smiled and began singing with her.

"And remember the words that once were spoken: To love another person is to see the face of God!"

As we walked down the streets I heard singing. I looked up to see a large Barricade with people on it singing, all people I knew and many I didn't who had died. All my friends from the barricade, including Gavroche and Enjorlas, stood singing and waiting for Paigé and I.

Paigé smiled at me and we both began singing along.

"Do you hear the people sing

Lost in the valley of the night

It is the music of a people

Who are climbing to the light

For the wretched of the earth

There is a flame that never dies

Even the darkest night will end

And the sun will rise.

They will live again in freedom

In the garden of the Lord

We will walk behind the plough-share

We will put away the sword

The chain will be broken

And all men will have their reward!

Will you join in our crusade?

Who will be strong and stand with me?

Somewhere beyond the barricade

Is there a world you long to see?

Do you hear the people sing?

Say, do you hear the distant drums?

It is the future that we bring

When tomorrow comes!

Will you join in our crusade?

Who will be strong and stand with me?

Somewhere beyond the barricade

Is there a world you long to see?

Do you hear the people sing

Say, do you hear the distant drums?

It is the future that we bring

When tomorrow comes!

Comes!

Comes!

Comes!

Tomorrow comes!"
