“No, it's definitely not like him to sleep in.” Renee muttered, “He's like the first one up every morning, even when we do go out.”
Devyn took a small sip of her water. She thought back to this morning when she spotted Randy passed out on the couch with multiple bottles of beer around him. Randy would never drink himself to the point where he would pass out. It was something that Devyn was surprised about because no matter how childish he could be, he acted mature when needed. He wasn't a drinker, especially not when Alanna was around.
“Kimmy was upset last night.” Alanna said, softly from next to Renee. Devyn couldn’t help but think the worst, considering Randy’s slightly sour mood the night before. It just surprised her that he had put all his issues aside to help her out when it wasn’t his problem. She knew that Randy had a heart of gold because it showed when it came to someone in trouble, but she had never seen him act so caring.
“Do you think that Kim lost the baby?” Devyn asked Renee, softly.
Renee sighed, “I don’t even want to think about that, but if it did happen, then Randy would have definitely been heartbroken. He’s wanted another baby for so long.”
Randy loves kids, and despite his busy schedule he has always wanted more kids after Alanna. He was happy to had gotten his three step-sons, but he wanted a baby. A baby that he could watch go from a small little infant to a young adult.
“Can I get more lemonade, Dev?” Alanna asked.
“Of course, sweetheart, go ahead.” Just as Alanna had gotten up to serve herself more lemonade, Devyn’s phone vibrated on the table. She immediately saw Randy's name come up on her screen.
Renee sent Devyn a look as Devyn answered and brought the phone to her ear, “Hey, I-”
“Where the fuck is my daughter?”
Devyn glanced at the phone in confusion, clearing thinking that it wasn't Randy.
“She's with me. Why are you freaking out?” She asked, softly as Alanna sat next to Renee.
“Well, Devyn considering she was here when I went to sleep and she wasn't when I woke up, I think I have the right to be a little freaked out.” Randy rolled his eyes as he slipped on his sweatpants.
“I'm sorry, I didn't think of waking you, but she's fine with-”
“Where are you?” He asked, cutting her off rudely.
Devyn scoffed, “Maybe you should calm that attitude first.”
Devyn didn't want to lose her cool in front of Alanna because it was pretty clear that she was talking to her father. With Randy it was always difficult to not snap at him, especially when he was being a dick for no reason.
