STOP! REWIND!

I watched as her back faced mine, eager to join the circle of idiots drinking their cheap beer. Then, she let out an exasperated sigh and turned around to face me.

"Dude! Come on let's go hang out! You need to let loose a bit!"

I took a glimpse at the group of people who were in the living room and then back at Zoey.

'Go James go!' I tried to convince myself.

It didn't work.

"No thanks. I'm good being my tight, high strung self. I'll stay in the kitchen." I gave her a half smile. She turned around and headed towards the pile of monkeys, deciding to sit right next to Jacob.

Of course she did.

I couldn't help but stare at the pair of them for a moment.

He was perfect.

She was perfect.

Crap, like I had any chance in hell!

I rubbed the back of my neck, frustrated with myself, before heading back towards the kitchen.

I decided to pour myself a Coke since it was the only nonalcoholic drink this place had.

Although, looking back at the group and seeing her laugh next to Jacob, I was really tempted to take the alcohol.

I needed it.

I took sips of my drink as I protectively (maybe even a bit creepily) watched as Zoey laughed with the  high school jerks. Jacob whispered something into her ear and she said something and nodded.

She was agreeing to something.

I didn't like that.

I turned around with the Coke in my hand and accidentally bumped into somebody, causing me to spill my drink all down the front of me.

"Jesus! Next time watch where you're -"

I was cut off when a muscular figure grabbed me by my shirt collar and pushed me so my back hit the cold surface of the metal fridge.

"What were you about to say to me Dunes?"

"Um. Nothing. Sorry Nathan." I said like a coward.

He thankfully let me down and said "I'll let you off this time Dunes. But next time..." he punched his fist down on the marble counter.

I nodded my head, trying to confirm that I got his message.

He chuckled with a couple of his buddies before walking away, beginning to flirt with some of the cheerleaders.

Oh Mamamia.

I tried to return to my original position at the counter, attempting to keep my eye on Zoey. My Spider-senses were tingling; I heard Blockhead Brock say something.

"Let's put together Jacob and Freaky Zoey over there." He said maliciously.

'You just crossed a line Brock.' I metaphorically roll up my invisible sleeves and try to push my way through the crowds to get to the circle, where everyone was now chuckling at Brock's snide remark at my friend.
