I snatched off my necklace as I angrily stomped downstairs. I looked around, and felt his presence disappear. I put the cross in my pocket, deciding to not let it out of my sight.
1 month later ...
"How was school?" I asked Chris who tossed his bag on the couch, flopping next to me. He sighed. "Ass. I got into a fight today with a football player who kept on making fun of me for the longest because I'm gay."
"Suspension?"
He nodded, and rolled his eyes. "Yup." He sighed. "And I can't perform at my dance team performance either which is tomorrow."
"Well, you could spent more time with me." I shrugged.
He nodded. "Great. I'm happy because school is getting on my nerves. And I lost the fight." He crossed his arms.
"Well," I paused. "It is a jock-"
"I know," He interrupted. "I just wanna pop him in the face with a pistol."
I sat up. "You hungry?"
He nodded. "You?"
I shook my head, and he sucked his teeth in annoyance. "You have to eat." He whined. "When was the last time?"
I ignored him, walking towards the kitchen but I heard him get up from the couch. "When?"
I opened the cabinets, disregarding his questions. "I'll make you rice and chicken."
"When!? Mariyah-"
"About a week now!" I yelled, feeling tears well up in my eyes. "Happy!?"
He stared down at me, and I seen tears fall down his cheeks. "I don't like seeing you like this."
"Well you do." I cried. I pushed pass him and quickly walked out of the kitchen upstairs to my room. I didn't bother to close the door since he would come as well. I lay on my pillow and threw my blankets over me. I wiped my tears and sighed as he walked into my room with an apple. "At least have one bite."
I stared at him bluntly before taking a bite of the apple, and I ended up devouring it to the core.
"You're hungry." He mumbled. "Stop starving yourself."
"I can't." I sniffed.
There was small silence, until he had broke it. "Why?" He said softly.
"Because I hate somebody but I love them. And it's to the point where my life is in danger so I can't see that person."
"I'm sorry." He said, saddened. "But at least eat a plate of of food....I'll make it."
I had sat up, and we both went downstairs. Chris made me a plate of macaroni, and I sat at the table playing with my food. I wanted to eat but then again I couldn't."
Chris sat across the table on his phone. "I'm really trying to find a good man to be like Jontavian and Brandon."
"You'll find one." I mumbled. The house was completely silent, almost any movement we made was heard clearly.
I then took my fork, and put some macaroni into my mouth. Swallowing it felt awkward, considering the fact that I haven't eaten warm food in a while. My stomach began to feel bubbly, and myself having an awkward taste in my mouth. I got up and ran to the bathroom. "What happened?" Chris asked in concern. I quickly opened the toilet, and vomited the food, and the apple I had eaten earlier. Chris held my hair as I continued to throw up everything out of my system. I began to cough hoarsly. He pay and rubbed my back, as I then looked into the toilet to see blood dripping from my mouth. I threw up again, seeing more blood. "Shit!" Chris yelled.
My eyes widened, as I seen Chris let go of my hair. " I'm getting water.
I continued to vomit blood. I didn't know why, and didn't know how. I knew it wasn't right. Tears fell down my cheeks as I felt something solid at the lump of my throat. I felt myself choke as Chris ran back into the bathroom with a cup of water. I tried to speak but I couldn't. He smacked my back as I continued to choke. Until shortly that terrible pain in my throat was gone. It slowly slid off of my tongue and I heard it fall into the toilet. I looked down to see the necklace Mateo had given me, sinking to the toilet bottom and it disappearing in the thick dark blood.
"You ate a necklace?!" Chris yelled. His breath and words were shaky, I knew he was in fear. He handed me towels. "I'll be right back."
"I-i didn't eat it." I coughed. "I d-didn't do it."
I stared down at the necklace, blood all over my hands face and clothes. I heard the front door slam, and I knew Chris left the house.
I began to cry in distress, and I looked over to see Mateo standing by the doorway. His eyes were a vibrant green that seemed to almost glow. He bent down to my level, and his cold touch made me flinch. He ended up gently picking me up bridal style. I felt my blood dripping off of my clothes and hair onto the floor. My clothes were so drenched in my own blood that my shirt hugged my skin. Mateo gently rested me on the stairs. "I don't like being away from you."
I blacked out once he pressed his lips on mine.
