Chapter 1

Hi, I'm Serena and Welcome to the Kingdom of Kalos. I'm 18 years old I live in a family of 4 me my mom, dad, and my little sister Karena.

I know what your thinking "oH sHe LiVeS iN KaLoS eVeRyThInG iS pErFeCt ThErE!" ....at least that's what the say in Pokemagazines...well sorry to break it to you but it's not.

It's hard to work for a living. Day and night constant struggles. Yeah you got your royalty and your rich! But then there's us......the poor. Yeah my family is not the rich of the rich but we survive, and that's what counts.

"Honey come downstairs time for breakfast!"

Welp another day of work, here we gOoOo.

I dig through my closet and take out some blue jean shorts, a light red tank to, and some blue boots. I quickly put them on and hurry downstairs to eat.

"Hi Mom!"

"Good Morning Sweetie go ahead and sit next to your sister and I will serve you breakfast."

I sit next to Karena and Mom hands us a plate of pancakes. "Wow Mom where'd you find the ingredients for this?"

"It doesn't matter honey, now go on ahead and eat. I hear a soldier is coming by today so be on your best behavior when he comes."

"Yes Mom!" Me and Karena say is unison. We finish eating then head out to do our daily chores.

We hear a knock on our front door.

"I'll get it!" I heard my mom shout. She opens the door "Oh hello good sir, how may I help you?"

"Greetings ma'am, I am a here to invite your daughter Serena Yvonne to the princes contest for a bride."

I walk up to the door and the soldier hands me the invitation. "If your planning on entering miss you shall need to complete the questions on the back."

I turn it around and there are 5 questions on the small sheet of paper. My mom nods at him, "Thank you sir we will think about it" He nods. "I shall be taking my leave, good day ladies" "And same to you" my mom responds, and with that he leaves. My mom closes the door, a bright smile slowly starts spreading across her face. She then starts squealing making me wince in surprise.

"OH MY GOODNESS HONEY DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS?!"
I look at her confused and shake my head no. "WE COULD BE RICH!! YOU HAVE TO ENTER!"
I sigh in annoyance. "Why mom? I don't even like the prince!"
"Sweetie, our family needs that money. Pleaseee enter, its worth a shot!" she gives me the best puppet dog eyes she could muster.

I look away from her trying to avoid her expression. "Mom don't look at me like tha-" I dared to glance at her, she was still giving me those eyes. I groaned, "Ugh Fine! I'll do it..." My mom smiles. "Yes!! Go on ahead and fill out the questions on the back of that invitation, then you'll be all set" I just nod.

Me and my mom walk to the kitchen and I sit down at our table. Mom hands me a pencil, I give her a small 'thank you' then turn my attention to the questions. They appear to be yes or no questions...'Easy'

Question 1: Do you promise to only have a relationship with the prince?
•Yes •No
I circled Yes.
Question 2: Do you promise not to pick a fight, gossip, or sabotage the other contestants?
•Yes •No
That one was more of a maybe so I circled Yes.
Question 3: Do you promise to leave if you don't qualify?
•Yes   •No
Yep I don't even want to be there in the first place! But for the sake of my family..I need to get in...
Question 4: Will you do anything the prince tells you?
•Yes   •No
OF COURSE NOT!!!!!! My mom looks over at this question, "Circle yes" she said sternly. I sigh.
Question 5: Are you a virgin?
•Yes   •No
WHAT THE HECK?!?!? WHAT KIND OF QUESTION IS THAT?! I relax, then circle no.

I hand my mom the paper and she smiles "Alright! I'll send this in and your good to go!" I roll my eyes.

"I'm going up to my room...I uhm, I need to practice for my concert tomorrow." My mom nods in understanding.

"Alright sweetie go on ahead and practice, word has it that the Royal Family is coming to see it since your instructor is the Queens Sister." 'Oh well isn't that just splendid' "Okay thanks for the heads up!" I scurry upstairs and collapse on my bed.

.....'might as well practice' I grab my violin and start playing a small melody, humming along in tune.

It seems the whole world around me is at ease...
