Why? Why did Burr have to make that promise all those years ago? Why was Burr stupid enough to accept and pray that Hamilton would never have it acted upon?

Because Hamilton had asked, pleaded, begged, until Burr had no option but to accept.

1

He could remember that terrible day like it was yesterday. Hamilton was crying. Hamilton never cried. Something had happened. Something terrible. Something bad enough to drive Hamilton over the brink and sob in front of Burr.

2

"Please, please, you have to do it. For me."

"No. I can't. I won't."

"You must.If I have to die, I want you to do it, it has to be you."

"No. No way."

"Aaron, you have to."

"Alexander, your greatest fear is your time running out. I'm not going to be the one to make that a reality."

"At least with you, I'll see it coming."

3

"No! Alexander, I'm not going to kill you!"

"Please! You have to be the one!"

"I love you too much!"

"Aaron...please."

4

Burr pulled Hamilton close, hugging him to his chest. "Why, why do I have to be the one?" he asked brokenly.

"Because you're the only one I can accept it from."

"Alexander..."

"Aaron, please."

5

"Okay."

6

Burr had died slightly that day when he finally agreed. Even though he had been sure the day would never come. But it did.

He should have known.

That day always comes.

7

He should've said no. Should've stood his ground. But he didn't and now he was holding a loaded pistol. Hamilton wouldn't shoot him. He'd throw away his shot. He loved Burr too much to fire.

8

Burr couldn't do it. He loved Hamilton too much.

9

He had to, He promised. He had to keep his word and pray that he missed.

10

BOOM

"WAAAIIIT!!!"

He didn't miss.

He ran forward but was blocked and pushed away. People latched onto his shoulders and tried to drag him from Hamilton's collapsed form. Tear were falling rapidly. "ALEXANDER!"

Burr broke free and ran to him. He collapsed to his knees and pulled Hamilton into his arms. "Please, please please please," he begged brokenly, "Why did I do this? How could I do this? Why did I make that promise?"

Hamilton didn't respond.

Burr was forcefully dragged from the scene.
