Request: 77: "Why didn't you stop me?"
What'll You Fall For?
AN
It's not very long though, I apologize for that.

"Don't do it, Alexander."
"Go away, Burr, no one you asked your opinion."
"I'm telling you, wait for it to play out," Burr warned, "See how it goes before you make such a drastic decision."
"Your advice never got me anywhere and it didn't do much for you either," Hamilton replied, his quill scratching furiously across the paper.
"Wait for it."
"The Reynolds Pamphlet."

"If you knew it was such a bad idea why didn't you stop me?!" Hamilton angrily shouted, dramatically slashing his arm through the air as he turned around, causing the papers he held to nearly tear.
"I tried!"
"Evidently, you didn't try hard enough! I thought we were friends? Why would you let me do this?"
"Every other word I told you was to wait. Wait for it to play out. Wait and see which way the wind would blow but did you listen to me? No. Because you never listen to me," Burr replied, his voice like the danger of cracking ice.
"That's because you do say it every other word! Ever heard of the boy who cried wolf?"
"You never listened to me in the first place," Burr said coldly.
"That's because your advice sucks."
"Yeah? Who's the one with a ruined political career? It's certainly not me."
"Go fuck yourself, Burr." Burr rolled his eyes in response to Hamilton's stupidity. "How was I supposed to tell when something is a stupid idea when you're always warning me against every single thing I do?"
"Because everything you do is a stupid thing! You always just come out on top! I don't know if it's luck or the universe laughing in my face but everything about your life wouldn't have worked for anyone else!"
"No! You can never just pick a side! Pick an action! Pick something to believe in! You wait too long and opportunity sails right on by! It's not my fault you're salty for being left behind while everyone else progressed without you!"
"At least I'm still standing while your life is burning down around you."
"Burr, you were never standing to begin with. You never stand up for yourself, you never stand up for what you believe. If you stand for nothing, what'll you fall for?"
Burr looked Hamilton dead in the eye and said nothing.
"Even you don't know what your life means anymore, you're just trying to stay afloat."
"Sweet Jesus, Alexander, you're the stupidest bastard I've ever met. Did it ever occur to you that I've been ahead of you all my life right up until you walked into it? Did it occur to you that maybe I was standing before you met me? Did it ever occur to you that maybe I'm trying to stay afloat because I got hit by a fucking hurricane that blew into New York on a burning ship? When will you learn? If for once in your god damned life you just shut up and listened to what I had to say you might learn a little more and wouldn't be in this mess if the first place!"
Hamilton actually shut his mouth for once but it was too late. Hamilton was finally listening but Burr was done talking. He always was a man of few words. Burr didn't even slam the door when he left, just an audible click.
Did Burr just-
Confess?
Burr had fallen for something after all.
