I don't know how long it was into our sleep, but sleeping with Dalia that night made me realize something, but it was only pointed out to me via what may possibly be the most truth-filled dream I've had.
Deep into my sleep, I found myself in a dark, empty void. All black. No light or a way out in sight. What was going on?
"Hello?!," I shouted
No answer. Only an echo of my own voice.
What was my brain trying to tell me? Standing in an empty void for this long all alone made me a bit scared.
All of a sudden, I heard a rumbling sound coming from behind me. Was this the first clue to what my mind was trying to say?
I turned around, and the only thing I found behind me was a door. A brown wooden door that didn't seem to be connected to anything.
My first instinct was not to take any chances, but I knew that this had to mean something. I walked up to the seemingly ordinary door, scouring it from all sides.
"Well...here goes nothing," I said to myself as I put my hand on the knob. I twisted it while pushing the door and what I found on the other side was breathtaking.
The door led to a fully decorated ballroom with a disco ball hanging from the ceiling and party favors all over the place. The walls were a dark blue color, with some blots of orange and yellow on them for a bit of extra flare. The sight of all of the inkling occupants dancing and having a good time made me astounded.
I wanted to join in.
There was one other detail that I noticed right as I had the instinct of joining everyone else: everyone had a date.
This perplexed me, seeing as I didn't have a date myself. Nevertheless, I walked inside.
I reached the side of the dance floor, and once I took my first step on it, I heard a record scratch, abruptly stopping the music.
All of the other inklings turned around and stared at me in a perplexed manner. What was going on?! What does this mean?!
Not even 5 seconds after I stepped onto the floor, everyone cleared a path for me. Why were they doing this? I had no idea.
When I looked in front of me to the other side of the path, I was surprised to see who was waiting for me.
It was none other than Dalia, dressed in the most beautiful blue pleated ball gown I had ever seen. Looking closer, I noticed that she was on the floor crying, almost as if her date dumped her or something.
I knew what I had to do the moment I saw her bawling like that.
"Dalia!!!," I shouted.
It looked like she had stopped, still sniffling from her tears. She looked up at me, and her frown almost immediately turned upside down.
"M-Max? Max!!"
"Dalia, I'm coming!"
We were sprinting towards each other, almost as if being close to each other was our first priority.
