Okay just go in. Just- go, rip it off like a band aid.Hermione had spent the last five minutes trying to muster up the courage to enter Potions class.
You can't avoide them forever!
There was a grand total of 3 people Hermione didn't want to see; Harry, Ron and Malfoy. Ever since that fateful night when she snuck down to the kitchens and heard Harry and Ron gossiping about her she had been very careful to doge any possible encounters. It had been fairly easy over the weekend, she could just hide away in her dorm or at the library... but now it was Monday. She was going to have to see them because they had classes together.
She would have been thankful that she had a partner in Potions, effectively prohibiting her from sitting with them, but of course her partner had to be the ONE other person she was trying to avoid. Malfoy. Now it is true Hermione has never wanted to interact with Malfoy in the first place, but since the night he... kissed/bit her neck... she had been especially wary.
Finally after five minutes of standing frozen in front of the door, she pushed it open. Just as she put her foot into the classroom, the clock tower chimed. She let out a sigh of relief as she had never ever been late to a class before and she wasn't planning on starting today.
Hermione scanned the room. Harry and Ron were already sitting with their partners, Harry was looking at his hands fidgeting with something while Ron was looking up at her. They made awkward eye contact for a split second before Hermione looked straight ahead, threw her shoulders back and took her seat, ignoring him.
Malfoy was also already seated but his demeanor was much more relaxed. He was slouched in his chair arms crossed. The look he wore was one of sleepiness and boredom as he stared straight ahead, not even noting Hermione's existence as she pulled up a chair besides him.
"Good morning class!" A far too chipper Professor Slughorn sang. "I hope you all have rested up over the weekend because now it's time to work, work, work! We will be resuming our Love Potion Project today. Please work quietly and effectively with you're partner. You may begin."
Hermione wasted no time. She knew she need a distraction, and schoolwork had never failed her to provide one. (Especially since she could feel Ron staring at her.)
In about 20 minutes Hermione had become successfully submersed in the project. She had managed to block out all sound and movement outside the small space she worked on. In fact maybe she had blocked out too much noise. All of a sudden, a sharp prick hit her forehead, causing her to drop the jewel-weed juice and press her hands firmly between her eyes.
"Granger are you stupid, deaf or both?"
Hermione shot a death glare at Malfoy.
"What?" He asked in an almost innocent voice.
Draco's wand was in hand pointed directly at her. His expression purely quizzical.
"How dare you hex me!" Hermione fumed.
"Grow up Granger." Draco laughed. "It was a mere prick."
Hermione clenched her jaw. "You have no right to prick me!"
"Well how the hell am I suppose to get your attention? It's like you go into a god damn trance whenever you work."
"Umm I don't know, maybe try talking to me like a normal person." She said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
"You dumbass. I was yelling your name for five minutes, you just sat there mumbling to yourself." He rolled his eyes.
Hermione blushed and looked down at the table. She frowned, racking her brain for an intelligent comeback. After several minutes of silence she decided it would be better not to say anything and just continue on working, but with Malfoy around, no such luck.
"You really are a freak."
Hermione heaved a heavy sigh of annoyance.
"Just because I can get in my own zone and block out distractions does not make me a freak you twit."
Draco just looked straight ahead and smiled.
"You can't block out everything." He said chuckling slightly.
"Well when someone hexes me then of course I can't focus-"
"That's not what I'm talking about." Draco turned his hole body so he was facing her.
Hermione eyed him suspiciously. He was full on smiling at her by now, his dimples making their existence known.
God he's so hot- what? Did I really just think that? OH MY GOD! I need to get my head examined... but wow he must be the most handsome person I've ever-
"Bloody hell Granger have you gone into your trance again?"
"No!" Hermione said a little too defensively causing her to blush.
"I could distract you." Draco smirked leaning back into his chair casually.
"What are you on about-"
"Miss Granger, Mr. Malloy I hear way to much jibber-jabber coming from your table, I need you to get back to work." Professor Slughorn warned.
Hermione blushed for what felt like the millionth time that day. She clenched her jaw and glared at Malfoy. His grey eyes lingered on her body before making their way to her dark brown ones.
"I'll distract you." Malfoy said in a time she imagined could get most girls to drop their pants on the spot.
Before Hermione could respond, the clock tower chimed and the students began the funnel out of the classroom.
"Never mind, I'll tell you later Grangie." Malfoy said walking out
