That was when the power went out.
~Harry's POV~
I've never really been an awkward person. Everything I do is 'smooth,' you could call it.
But not today, nope. Here I am, practically pushed against a girl who hates me, wearing nothing but a towel. And I'm not gonna lie, I did have some ideas...
"F*ck." Kaylee whispered. Yes, I considered that. But in reality, that would never happen. I couldn't see her face, but I knew she was as beautiful as ever. Her breathing was steady, unlike my heartbeat. She wriggled out between me and the wall, and tried to feel her way into the living room. I heard her dog whine.
"It's okay, Carlie, you're ok." She whispered in a soothing voice, the way she used to talk to me when I wasn't feeling well.
"Harry, put your clothes on. Oh, and there's a tornado warning."
"Okay." I made my way down the hall and into the laundry room. I remember helping Kaylee move into this house with Lynn. She had really good grades in school, so the university said they wanted her a year early. Three years later, I'm still proud of her.
After I grabbed my clothes and got dressed, I felt my way to the living room. There were candles lit everywhere, making the room more visible. I looked over. Kaylee was talking on the phone.
"Yes, Harry is fine. You want me to- What? But- Ok, fine. Bye, Anne."
"Why where you talking to my mum?" I asked. She jumped a little, startled that I walked in without her knowing.
"Lucky me, Anne said you need to stay here until the storm passes. There's a tornado. " She looked down at her phone screen.
"Okay, let's get some food, first!"
Kaylee scoffed. "Please, you're not Niall."
"How do you know about that?" I ask.
"Um, you guys are freaking everywhere. And Niall is my favorite, so..." she shrugged sarcastically. Niall? Why doesn't she like me? Because you f*cking broke her heart, you idiot, that's why.
"Why do you own so many candles?" I said jokingly, dropping the other topic.
She looked up with a dark look. "Two words. Ritual. Killing."
The room suddenly got cold, and I could feel the goosebumps on my arms and neck. Was she hiding something from me, did she really believe in that sort of stuff? Maybe she would kill me next...
"I'm kidding, Styles." Kaylee smirked.
I laughed nervously. "Ha, okay..."
I spun around, still kind of jumpy, and went to sit down in the bathroom on the floor. Kaylee came in a minute later, with her hand grasping Carlie's collar. When the dog saw me, she trotted over, attempted to lick my face, and lied down next to me. I stroked her back.
"I can't believe she remembers you." I couldn't see Kaylee, but I knew she was looking at me. She lit some candles and sat down in the empty bathtub, already on her phone.
"Harry, stop looking at me. You're creeping me out."
"You're beautiful, though." My heart skipped a beat when she looked up at me.
"If you really thought I was beautiful, you would of stayed. But you didn't." She snapped, looking at her phone again. I feel so stupid for leaving her, but it was my dream to sing. I didn't know which one was worth it.
I sighed and leaned my head against the wall. "I'm sorry, Kaylee." Slowly, I drifted off to sleep.
"Whatever."
~Kaylee's POV~
The next time I looked up at Harry, his head was against the wall, eyes closed. He was asleep, next to Carlie. I remembered when I first got her.
*FLASHBACK*
"Keep your eyes closed." I could hear Harry grinning.
We walked into his house, and the scent of vanilla and cologne filled the room. It was an interesting smell to most people, but it was Harry's smell.
I heard a whimper coming from what seemed to be Harry's room, but I couldn't be too sure, my eyes were squeezed shut. Harry led me down the hallway and we stopped by a doorway. I heard a strange bark. What the heck?
"Ok, open your eyes."
I opened my eyes, and saw Harry holding a black and brown puppy with big paws and big ears.
"OH MY GOSH HARRY. DID YOU REALLY GET ME A PUPPY?!" I screamed, taking it in my hands.
"Yep. Her name is Carlie," He gestured at her collar. "That's why I asked you what your favorite name for a dog was, the other day. Do you like her?"
I leaned forward and slowly kissed Harry on the lips.
"I love her."
*END OF FLASHBACK*
Carlie is the only thing that reminds me of me and Harry being together. I burned all the pictures of us, deleted them from my phone. But I kept Carlie, of course, because she was my puppy. She always will be.
I checked the clock on my phone. 11:27pm. I heard the stormy autumn rain pounding on the roof, but my phone said the tornado had died down before it got to us. I snuck out of the bathroom, and crawled into my bed, leaving Carlie and Harry sleeping next to the bathroom sink.
As I drifted off to sleep, I found myself wondering what would of happened if Harry would have stayed.
